The Rockies head into the weekend in sole possession of first place in the NL West and the MLB odds suggest Friday’s game at home against the Giants is a toss-up.

Back atop the NL West by themselves, the Colorado Rockies continue their long weekend series with the San Francisco Giants on Friday in an 8:40 PM (ET) contest at Coors Field. Jeff Samardzija and Antonio Senzatela is the initial mound matchup that finds Colorado slight -110 chalk with 11 for the total.

Thursday’s series opener saw the Rockies take an early 8-1 lead before needing a 9th-inning walk-off single for a 10-9 decision in a game Bookmaker closed -165 on Colorado. It was the sixth consecutive win over San Francisco for the Rockies this season and left them 7-1 vs. the Giants overall in 2017. Colorado won its 5th-straight at home in the rivalry after brooming the G-Men here in April, winning two of those contests as the underdog.

Will Giants Offense Support Samardzija?

Samardzija takes the mound seeking just his second win in the last month, the both he and the Giants 1-3 his last four times out despite a respectable 3.64 ERA in that span. San Francisco scored a grand total of six runs in the three defeats and have plated 16 in the eight losses the Giants have suffered behind the former Notre Dame star. He got pounded here in Denver in April (5.1 IP, 7 ER) in an 8-0 whitewashing, that effort coming a week after falling to Senzatela and the Rockies in San Francisco by a 4-3 count.

Senzatela has struggled a bit lately with the team dropping three of his last five assignments, but the rookie has otherwise been a solid play for bettors with nine tickets cashed in 13 starts for nearly six units of profit vs. the MLB odds. The 22-year-old Venezuelan was nothing short of fantastic against the Giants in back-to-back April starts, tossing seven innings each time out to get the win while surrendering just 11 hits without a walk in either tilt. He could be writing a book on how to pitch at Coors Field, winning six of his seven starts here while posting a 3.18 ERA and holding batters to a .238 average in the thin air.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Gary Cederstrom has the plate for Friday’s fracas, the Bismark native dragging an 8-4 tendency for ‘over’ winners into the affair. Much of that trend was built on a string of six consecutive high side paydays that was just stopped the last time Cederstrom called balls and strikes. He worked an ‘over’ here in April to keep his string intact with his last four games at Coors behind the mask finishing above the mark.

Sunny skies, temps in the upper-80s and a 10-12 mph WNW wins (in from left-center) is the first pitch forecast. I’ll play the ‘over’ for my free baseball pick.
