Not having Mike Trout in the lineup will be a significant blow for the Los Angeles Angels. Today we’re going to take a look at their matchup with the Minnesota Twins and see if there’s any value on the plus money line.

Minnesota Twins

Adalberto Mejia gets the start for Minnesota and comes in with a 4.64 ERA and 1.59 whip so far this season. Although his numbers are not that great he has actually pitched decently well over his past couple of starts allowing just five earned runs over 12 innings pitched versus Kansas City and Tampa Bay. I think he should be able to pitch well enough tonight to give Minnesota a solid chance to win this game considering they are the better offense statistically coming into this matchup.

Minnesota has some decent numbers across the board but I really like their propensity to get on base as they rank first in the major leagues in walks per game. As well, they rank in the middle or better in most offensive categories and have a solid .744 OPS which ranks them 13th in major league baseball. Because this game to me looks like a coin flip between two pitchers that are struggling just a little bit I think there is good value in backing Minnesota on the plus money line.

Los Angeles Angels

Alex Meyer takes the mound for Los Angeles and comes in with a 5.79 ERA and 1.63 whip, but like Mejia is a bit better than his current numbers. He hasn’t pitched a lot of innings this year and is coming off the 10 days DL but his hit totals, for the most part, have been decently low. Still, there is no denying his problem of getting the ball across the plate which has led to his high whip, which as mentioned could be a problem against the best team in baseball in drawing walks. Statistically on the offensive side, Los Angeles ranks in the bottom five in most categories hitting just .237 as a team and averaging just 8.02 hits per game which rank them 25th in both categories. They don’t strike out much which is a good sign but again I really don’t see any reason why they should be the favorite in this contest so I believe fading them is the smart call.

Minnesota Twins vs L.A. Angels

Oddsmakers have come out making Minnesota a little plus money line favorite across the board and for my MLB pick, I will back them today. The pitching matchup looks like a toss-up statistically in overall Minnesota’s the better hitting team which I believe adds value when taking them tonight.
