James Paxton comes off the 10-day disabled list to take the mound for the Mariners facing off against rookie Antonio Senzatela who gets the start for Rockies. We are going to take a look at the total for this game as I believe oddsmakers have set this total a bit too high.

Colorado Rockies

Senzatela takes the mound for Colorado and comes in with a 3.19 ERA and 1.15 whip and is simply been outstanding so far this season. Although pitching in an American League ballpark is never an easy task he has had the opportunity to pitch in one of the best hitter’s ballpark’s in all of baseball so he shouldn’t get shaken in this environment. He has been a very steady pitcher for Colorado this year although he has gotten knocked around just a little bit on a few occasions.

He was stellar in his last outing at home allowing zero earned runs off of five hits in eight innings versus St. Louis and I expect for him to come in and this interleague matchup and pitch well. At the plate, Colorado remains one of the better hitting teams in all of baseball hitting .266 as a team which ranks fourth in the major leagues. Their offensive statistics, of course, are bolstered by the fact they play in Colorado and across the board, their numbers drop when they travel.

Seattle Mariners

Prior to being on the disabled list James Paxton was having a stellar season and comes into this game with a 1.43 ERA and 0.98 whip. In his six starts this season he really only got knocked around once in Oakland allowing five earned runs off of nine hits in four innings. Outside of that, he has been fantastic allowing a total of just one earned run over his other five starts. It seems he is now hitting his prime and I believe this is a good spot to go ahead and back him to keep the run totals to a minimum.

Seattle remains in the middle the league in most categories but they do rank in the bottom part of the league in a few like averaging just 4.29 runs per game ranking them 22nd, and slugging .393 which ranks them 25th. I believe though this is a little bit of an underrated offense and they might feel to put together a few quality at-bats today. At all is said and done though I just don’t see these two teams getting to the number.

Colorado Rockies vs Seattle Mariners

Oddsmakers have come out with a total of eight for this game and for my MLB pick, I’m going to back under the total. Both these pitchers have been solid this year and I don’t see that really changing in this matchup, expect both teams to be hard-pressed to score a lot of runs.
