Mike Trout and Bryce Harper—considered the two best players in MLB the last several years—have become overwhelming odds favorites to win the AL and NL MVP Awards. But with a perceived odds overlay on these two prohibitive chalks in May, is now the perfect time to back someone like Adam Jones or Aaron Judge in the AL or maybe Clayton Kershaw or Kris Bryant in the NL?

Brewers Thames Has Gone From +50000 to +600 Odds to Win NL MVP

Both the AL and NL MVP Award winners markets are nice to get involved in if one can get the timing right and not make a bunch of desperate bets from the heart looking at statistics at a particular moment in time. The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook here in sunny Sin City has had odds up since March 20, 2017, and already, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s Mike Trout (-160 to win AL MVP) is a massive favorite in the Junior Circuit—after opening at 5/2—while if you bet on the Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper (-125 to win NL MVP, Open +400, SuperBook), you’d also be getting back less than you bet with the public strongly backing these two perennial studs at the betting windows.

The 25-year-old Trout is batting .336 with 9 HRs and 23 RBI and has a nice start, but the 6-foot-2, 235-pound, 6th-year man from Millville, NJ has gone 1-for-9 (.111) over the L7 days with an HR against the Tigers on Friday his only milk to drink. Twenty-four-year-old Las Vegas-native Harper (6-3, 216) is hitting a torrid .372 with 10 HRs and 29 RBI for Washington (22-12) which presently has the best Record in the Senior Circuit.

The most meteoric odds change came with the Brewers Eric Thames, who has gone from opening +50000 down to +600 now, tied for the NL’s second-lowest behind Harper and the Cubs Kris Bryant (+600). Thames (.320/13/25) has helped Milwaukee to a 19-17 mark, but in Brewtown will get little press and at 1B won’t be involved in the athletic plays OF Harper will be. And after knowing the odds were once +50000 ...

Also, 27-year-old Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (.326, 12 HRs, 26 RBI) has seen money be bet on him and is now at +800 after opening at +10000. Here are early May MLB odds for the AL and NL MVP Awards from the SuperBook:
