It's a slow day when it comes to baseball action for Thursday, so there are only four games that we're tracking closely. We've got an in-depth look at these four matchups and our cappers have released their top picks of the day.

Tampa Bay Rays (Odorizzi) vs. Texas Rangers (Ross)
Covered by Jeff Grant
The Rays are 59-61 on the season, a disappointing showing for them, but they haven't been nearly as bad as the Rangers, who are a dreadful 47-73 so far.

Robbie Ross starts for Texas and he's struggled mightily, going 2-4 with a 5.61 ERA this season. It'll be Jake Odorizzi on the bump for Tampa Bay and he's fared much better, recording a solid 3.89 ERA despite a 8-9 win-loss record.

It's tough to put any trust in the Rangers, so we can't fault Jeff for adding the Rays on the run-line as one of his MLB picks of the day. Will Tampa Bay follow up last night's easy win with another convincing performance?

Free MLB Pick: Rays -1.5 (+125)

San Diego Padres (Stults) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (Lackey)
Covered by Jeff Grant
Those thinking this will be a walk in the park for the Cardinals at home may want to re-consider. Yes, Eric Stults has been pretty terrible in 2014, but the Padres come in as one of the hottest teams in the MLB right now.

Stults, despite his poor overall numbers, has been doing better lately, having allowed a total of one earned run over his two starts. For St. Louis, John Lackey (1-1, 8.25 ERA) hasn't been too good since joining up, but this is as good of a matchup as he's going to get against the Padres' weak offense.

San Diego will be looking for their sixth straight win, but this is a tough spot for them, there's no doubt about it. Jeff is going a different direction and is on the 'over' to come through.

Washington Nationals (Strasburg) vs. New York Mets (Gee)
Covered by Ross Benjamin
The Nationals are doing themselves a lot of favors right now. In the weak NL East, they've moved ahead by five games, and they have a great chance to get another win tonight behind Stephen Strasburg.

Strasburg doesn't have the most dominant numbers (8-10, 3.68 ERA), but few pitchers are as unhittable when on their game. He's very familiar with the New York bats, so it's going to be interesting to see how he fares tonight.

The Mets send out Dillon Gee, who's surrendered only three earned runs over his last two assignments. Runs could be hard to come by, but ultimately Ross likes the apparent value on Strasburg on the Nationals at a reasonably good price.

Free MLB Pick: Nationals -140

Arizona Diamondbacks (Anderson) vs. Miami Marlins (Penny)
Covered by Joe Gavazzi and LT Profits
Miami's Brad Penny had a great season debut, allowing four hits and one run over five innings in a 4-3 road win over Cincinnati five days ago. Will he show up again tonight at home to the Diamondbacks?

Arizona will have Chase Anderson (7-4, 3.06 ERA) on the bump and he's been the team's most consistent starter throughout the season. What's more, the Diamondbacks have been far better on the road (27-29) than they have at home, where they've gone 25-39.

So, even though the Marlins have been solid at home, going 33-29, and have plenty of motivation considering they're still in the playoff race, both Joe and LT Profits are sticking with his guns and siding with the Diamondbacks at the appealing plus odds.

Free MLB Pick: Diamondbacks +110
