Player Props are a great way for the baseball bettor to find an alternate way in making a profit aside from picking the winner of what can possibly be a tough game.
Will Matt Kemp Record a Hit?
I was ready to jump on the "no" train as Kemp has been a huge disappointment for the Padres this season. Kemp was known as the player that never got hurt and ever since he hurt his quad as a Dodger, his playing career has went downhill.
So far, he took his talents down south to San Diego and it has gotten worse. That said, Kemp as finally started to wake up as of late as he has 4 home runs after just 1 for most of the first two months of the season. Kemp is coming off of a 2 for 5 effort against Arizona in which he's starting to see the baseball much better. Yes is the play. One hit is not asking a lot.
MLB Prop Betting Pick- Yes -250
Total Hits, Runs, and RBI's For Paul Goldschmidt
Over 2.5 - EV
Under 2.5 -120
At 19 HR, 55 RBI, and a .358 BA, Goldy has to to be the leader for the MVP but there's plenty of season to go. Another thing is that this is player props and it's a "what have you done for me lately situation".
While Goldschmidt is hitting .391 this past week, he hasn't been getting more than a hit per game with no extra base hits lately. The prop is 2.5 and a timely hit is great, but might not cut it here. I'm going to have to lean towards the under due to his most recent play.
MLB Prop Betting Pick- Under 2.5 -120
Total Strikeouts For Tim Lincecum
Over 4.5 -150
Under 4.5 +120
Odds makers are right on the money with this prop as the last 7 of Lincecum's outings, he's ranged from 3 to 5 k's. That's very consistent although it makes it more difficult for the bettor to predict.
I think that Lincecum will play well against Los Angeles tonight on the grand stage of Sunday Night Baseball, but in 5 out of those 7 outings, he's thrown for 4 strikeouts or less. That half point hook and the betting odds are making me lean towards the under for this particular prop. Bet light on the under.
MLB Prop Betting Pick- Under 4.5 +120
Angels vs. Athletics MLB Picks:
Will Ben Zobrist Record a Hit?
No - +195
I found the prop that I wanted as Zobrist has been tearing the cover off of the baseball despite a lackluster season. In the last week alone, he's 10 for 23 with 2 HR and 8 RBI. He's been coming up with huge, timely hits lately and I'm expecting one to drop in today. Take the "yes" option.
MLB Prop Betting Pick- Yes -250
Total Strikeouts For Garrett Richards
Over 4.5 -140
Under 4.5 +110
After a slow start to the season, Richards (7-4, 3.59) has picked up the pace. This is a guy with really bad luck. He's on the verge of picking up 20 wins last season and get's injured right as the Angels are ready to enter the playoffs and this season, he's on a much weaker Angels team and hasn't been as good as he was in the past. Of course, his standards are much higher than the average pitcher and I expect him to continuously return to his old form.
He's averaged more than 4.5 strikeouts per 9 innings, but has not been a strikeout machine. However, he's playing an Oakland Athletics team that has surprisingly had a poor season. This is a gut pick because of the inconsistency of Richards, therefore make the bet light, but I expect Richards to exceed 4.5 strikeouts this afternoon.
