Cashner is a prime fade candidate in Great American Ballpark tonight. Our expert handicapper checks the MLB odds and provides his insight on this exciting game.

The Cincinnati Reds host the team formally-known-as the Florida Marlins tonight for the third game of a four-game series. Just as the Marlins have lost a few key contributors to injuries, the Reds look to get their leadoff man Billy Hamilton back at the top of the order. Tonight’s starting pitching matchup also pins two hurlers seemingly heading in exactly opposite directions, leaving us with perceived value on the first five inning line at Great American Ballpark.

Andrew Cashner who is sporting a 4-9 record takes the hill for the Marlins. He has posted a 5.08 ERA year to date. The former San Diego Padre has not found his footing with the Marlins since the July trade, posting a 6.61 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in four games. It does not project to get any better for Cashner at Great American, where he owns a career 5.23 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in seven games. The former TCU product has not looked comfortable at all for his new team and is a prime fade candidate until further notice.

Homer Bailey gets the start for the home town Cincinnati Reds and Bailey has been solid so far this year going 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA. Homer Bailey has had injury issues for the last few years, but the former first rounder looked like the Bailey of old last time out against the Brewers giving up no runs and recording 11 strikeouts in six innings. He looked like a determined pitcher who wanted to make up for lost time and start earning his $100+ million paycheck in his last start. At age 30 Bailey still possesses the talent to have success at this level and facing a depleted Marlins lineup on the road should bode well.

The Reds bats have been hot of late, posting a .768 team OPS the last month. Led by Hamilton and Votto the Reds should get to Cashner early given his struggles. The Cincinnati bullpen has been shaky at best all year long. My MLB Pick would be to keep the relievers out of the equation as much as possible and betting the 1st 5 inning line on Cincinnati (-115) at BetOnline.
