The Cardinals and the Yankees start a three-game interleague series in New York. The Yankees are at -130 on the MLB odds board while the Cardinals are at +120 and the total has been set at 8.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Yankees St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak with Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals. Mike Leake allowed just four hits with seven strikeouts and zero walks over seven shutout innings and Stephen Piscotty homered and finished with five RBI.

The Cardinals rank 19th in the majors with 34 runs scored, 23rd with a .219 batting average and 22nd with seven home runs. St. Louis is 26th in MLB with a 4.90 ERA, 24th with a 1.41 WHIP and 12th with four quality starts. Aledmys Diaz has three home runs and five RBI and Stephen Piscotty has a team-best seven RBI.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have won three straight games, including Wednesday's 8-4 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays, when Aaron Judge homered for the third straight game and rookie Mike Montgomery gave up just two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

The Yankees currently rank 10th in the majors with 41 runs scored, 8th with a .259 batting average and 13th with 10 home runs. New York is 9th in MLB with a 3.57 ERA, 6th with a 1.16 WHIP and 26th with two quality starts. Chase Headley is hitting .393 and Aaron Judge has three home runs and seven RBI.

Pitching Matchup
Michael Wacha (1-0, 1.50 ERA) vs. Masahiro Tanaka (0-1, 11.74 ERA)

Michael Wacha allowed an earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk in six innings on a 10-4 win over the Reds last Saturday. Wacha went 5-3 with a 3.92 ERA in 12 road games (11 starts) last season and he was just 4-5 with a 5.33 ERA in 18 night games (16 starts).

Masahiro Tanaka earned a no-decision after giving up three runs with five strikeouts in five innings in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Orioles. Tanaka is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in one home start and he was 7-4 with a 3.19 ERA in 20 night starts last season.

Betting Trends

The Cardinals are 3-6 in all games, 1-2 in road games and 2-4 as underdogs.

The Yankees are 4-4 in all games, 2-0 in home games and 3-2 on games played on
grass field.

Final Analysis

The Cardinals will be well-rested while the Yankees have a game on Thursday night but the St. Louis offense is really struggling while Headley and Judge have carried New York early on.

Wacha shined on his season debut but Tanaka will finally settle down and get his first win, backed by an explosive offense.  I'm taking the Yankees at -130 MLB odds as one of my MLB picks.
