The amount of runs being scored is at an all-time for the season as we hit the tail end of summer and the weather will start to cool down. Here are your MLB Picks of the Day for Sunday.

Chicago Cubs vs Colorado Rockies

Coors Rule Aren't In Effect
Winners of 5 out of their last 6 games, the Chicago Cubs (78-44) are just running away with the National League Central Division as they're 13 games ahead of the 2nd place St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs are looking for their first World Series Championship in over a century. That said, Coors Field is very unpredictable and can make players like Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez look like Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays, crushing home run after home run due to the air pressure in Denver.

Quality Starting Pitching
My policy regarding Coors Field games is when the starting pitching is above average to take the under as the betting total is always bloated and in double figures and when the pitching is of low quality, take the over and not be afraid of a high betting total. In this game, we have two starters in Jason Hammel (13-5, 2.75 ERA) for the Cubs and Jorge De La Rosa (7-7, 5.29 ERA) for the Rockies that make the under 11 1/2 a bit appealing.

Unstoppable
The Chicago Cubs have to feel confident coming into this game as Jason Hammel has been nearly unhittable as of late. In his last 3 starts, he hasn't allowed a run and just 10 hits in 20 innings pitches. In all, Hammel is 6-0 in his last 6 appearances. During these starts, he's pitched a total of 38 innings and has allowed just 4 earned runs on 22 hits. It doesn't get much better than that and this is a well balanced Chicago Cubs team that will give Jason Hammel a ton of run support; especially in a venue such as Coors Field.

Believe the Hype
Second-year player, Kris Bryant has had an above average career thus far but has taken it to another level as of late. Bryant is 15 for his last 29 at-bats with 10 runs scored, 3 HR and 11 RBI. The pitcher is always supposed to have the advantage as a hitter succeeding 3 out of 10 times, makes him a star. In Bryant's case, he's succeeding more than half the time in his recent run of success. His batting average for the season is up to .300 with 31 HR and 83 RBI. He's a sneaky NL MVP candidate as he's on the best team in baseball. Look for the momentum to continue as Chicago has the combination of outstanding offense and pitching. Chicago is the MLB pick.

Sunday Night Baseball

New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants
I bet when ESPN or MLB scheduled two teams to play on this night, they expected the New York Mets (61-62) to be on top of their respective division with the pitching that they possess and for the Mets to be a World Series contender. Instead, New York has suffered a ton of injuries, Matt Harvey isn't in the mix, Daniel Murphy is dominating as a member of the Washington Nationals and the product on the field isn't as good as expected. This will put more pressure on tonight's starter, Noah Syndergaard (10-7, 2.76 ERA) as he's been the backbone of this team. Not only do the Mets need Syndergaard to pitch well against the San Francisco Giants (68-55) on the road, but they also need his bat as Syndergaard can hit just as good as he pitches.

Huge Game For San Francisco
How many times have we seen a 162 season come down to just one game? The way that the San Francisco Giants have played, this can possibly happen where the National League West Division Title is concerned. The Giants have dominated the division all season long and have recently hit a major slump that eventually gave the Los Angeles Dodgers temporary ownership of the lead, but the Giants have since bounced back and lead the Dodgers by a mere 1/2 game. San Francisco can ill-afford to relinquish the lead again and they're facing one of the better pitchers in the league in Noah Syndergaard.

New York has taken two out of the first three games in this series and is coming off of a major moral booster in a 9-5 win yesterday. In this game, Yoenis Cespedes hit 2 home runs and went 3 for 5 overall with 3 RBI's. This is a player that can take over a game and should be refreshed after being on the disabled list. For the Giants, Denard Span has been the hot hitter as he's 13 for his last 30 at bats with 2 HR and 4 RBI's. Span has also owned the Mets , hitting .440 in 25 at-bats.

This will be a game in which both teams feel a sense of urgency. I like New York in this spot. Cespedes has gotten his stroke back and Noah Syndergaard can be dominant.
