The best of the NL West get it on Saturday in Denver where the Los Angeles Dodgers are slight favorites on the MLB odds against the division-leading Colorado Rockies.

Separated by just a game and a half at the top of the NL West ranks, the Los Angles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies take their weekend set to a third game in Denver with an 8:10 PM (ET) first pitch. Tight money lines have Alex Wood and Los Angeles favored around -115 vs. Tyler Anderson and Colorado, 5Dimes dropping their total from 11 to 10½ overnight.

Anderson was supposed to pitch Thursday's opener, but a balky left knee scratched him from the game which closed with rookie Jeff Hoffman and the Rockies +120 underdogs on the MLB odds. An early error and wildness on the part of LA starter Hyun-Jin Ryu helped Colorado build a 10-zip lead, and they held on for the 10-7 triumph. A 5-run second was all the help Clayton Kershaw needed Friday when the Dodgers evened the series with a 6-2 decision as -200 chalk.

Wood Still Seeking 1st Road Win

Getting plenty of offensive support, Wood has earned the dubya his last two times out and sports a very nice 2.73 ERA. He's still building up arm strength after beginning the year in the bullpen, only going past the fifth in one of his five assignments, and all three of his starts away from Chavez Ravine have resulted in losses for the Dodgers. Wood earned no-decisions in all, including six innings of 1-hit shutout baseball in San Francisco, and the southpaw will be out to show he can master Coors where he's had a lot of trouble in the past. Wood has only managed to stick around for a combined 16 innings in four Denver starts, charged with 20 earned runs in the process.

You can't help but wonder if Anderson's left knee will hold up for 90-100 pitches in this twilight affair. The Dodgers have already beaten the former Oregon star twice, once here in Denver and another time in LA, plating seven earnies in his 10 combined frames. Anderson is a rarity as far as Colorado hurlers go, owning a much better ERA (3.42) in 15 career efforts at Coors compared to a 5.78 mark away from home (11 starts).

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Bill Miller is tasked with calling balls and strikes for this one, his ninth plate assignment of the season with the 'over' cashing six times in the previous eight. Home 'dogs are 0-2 with Miller behind the dish, and he worked a road start by Wood earlier this season that just skipped past a 6½ run total in San Francisco.

Clear skies and a warm 80º greets the start of the contest, temps dropping through the 70s and into the 60s as the game progresses. A westerly breeze (left to right) in the 8-10 range is also in the forecast. I'm inclined to lean towards the Rocks and the 'over' with my free baseball pick.
