Betting Preview of Saturday afternoon’s game between the Yankees/Tigers. Go inside to read this insightful betting preview article before making your MLB picks.

NY Yankees (Sabathia) vs Detroit (Pelfrey)
The Yankees and Tigers will square off for the second of a three game series on Saturday. The opening pitch at Comerica Park is slated for 1:10 PM ET. Current MLB odds at has Detroit as a -108 money line favorite, and the posted total is 9.0.

Detroit took the series opener 4-0 on Friday afternoon. Since 2014, these American League rivals have split their eight meetings in Detroit, and they went under the total on six of those occasions. The Tigers are 3-0 to start this 2016 MLB campaign, and by virtue of Friday’s loss, the Yankees fell to 2-2.

Starting Pitchers
The Yankees will send 35 year old veteran southpaw C.C. Sabathia to the mound on Saturday. Sabathia had a rough time in five spring training starts, posting a lofty 5.51 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. That’s a bit concerning since he also had a poor April in 2015, going 0-4 during those team starts, and compiling a 5.96 ERA. Sabathia also struggled in his five starts during day games last season, posting a sizable 7.36 ERA, and opposing batters hit a sizzling hot .333.

Detroit will counter with newly acquired Mike Pelfrey. The 31 year old right-hander is coming off a terrific spring training which saw him post a superb 2.66 ERA in five starts, and he held opposing hitters to a combined .203 batting average. Contrary to his starting pitching adversary on Saturday, Pelfrey was rock solid in four starts last April, evidenced by a stellar 2.25 ERA during those appearances.

After scoring 24 runs, banging out 29 hits, and socking six home runs in their two previous games, the Yankees were held scoreless on three hits yesterday.

The Tigers 3-0 start has been propelled by impressive offensive production. They’re currently tops in MLB with a .325 team batting average, and are also averaging a robust 6.3 runs per game. That offensive output also includes them smacking six home runs. As a matter of fact, Detroit currently possesses five players that have at least 12 at bats, and are hitting .385 or better.

Final Take and Pick
It’s been a rough last couple of seasons for C.C. Sabathia. He’s had injury and weight issues, while additionally seeing a rapid decline in his performance level. Making matters worse, last September Sabathia was admitted to alcohol rehab which was especially alarming. The former ace will be on a short leash in 2016. Yankee skipper Joe Girardi has given Sabathia the benefit of the doubt, by choosing him over Ivan Nova for the 5th spot in the Yankees starting rotation. I can’t help but be leery after seeing what his spring training numbers were, and additionally the terrible start he had a season ago.

I’m leaning toward the home team in this matinee affair, and one of my Saturday MLB picks will reflect that statement.
