Let's take a look at MLB Overnight Betting Lines for the games taking place on Sunday, April 24, and find the most valuable MLB picks in Sunday's slate.

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds
Jason Hammel is slated to toe the rubber for the Cubs against Alfredo Simon for the Reds in this matchup on Sunday. Hammel has been razor sharp in his first three starts with 2 runs allowed in 18 innings of work. He tossed 6 innings of shutout baseball earlier this month against this Cincinnati lineup but I do believe the Reds are capable of providing better at-bats and a stronger plate approach getting a second chance to face Hammel in a short period of time.

On the flip side, Alfredo Simon will make his return to the mound for the Reds after his last start which came against the Cubs was a very ugly one indeed as he allowed 5 runs and was knocked out of the game in the 1st inning. He threw a bullpen side session on Thursday which apparently went smoothly but I still do not have much confidence in him to get outs against one of the best and most potent lineups in baseball.

Simon had an ERA over 5 with Detroit last season and isn’t necessarily a good fit for a hitters park like Great American Ballpark here in Cincinnati. The Cubs have offered up no reason to go against them and I think they have the edge here and should pick up the win in what could also be yet another high scoring game between these teams. The Over is on a perfect 7-0 streak in games between the Cubs and Reds dating back to last season.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Robbie Ray has been a ‘bet on’ pitcher for me in this Arizona rotation here in April. Ray has clearly shown signs of taking the next step in his progression as a reliable Major League starter. Ray has yielded just 4 runs in 18.1 innings over his first three starts all against solid lineups facing the Chicago Cubs,

LA Dodgers and San Francisco. A positive sign for Ray in his last start against the Giants was he harnessed his control a lot better as his walk rate declined. The Pirates have been weaker as a team hitting against lefties so this could be a solid matchup for Ray to continue his early season success.

I have some concerns about his counterpart Francisco Liriano who has not pitched well of late and his control and command has been off as he’s issued an alarming 14 walks in 15.1 innings this season. He worked with his pitching coach Ray Searage on Thursday to try work out his command issues but as of right now, until I see evidence that Liriano can get the # of walks he allows under control, he is not a pitcher I want to support or have my $$ on at this point in time.I would definitely lean to Arizona as an MLB Pick in this game to pick up their 3rd win in 4 games with Robbie Ray on the mound.

Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros
This is your ESPN Sunday Night Baseball national TV game. Scott Feldman is who he is at this stage of his career. He is a middling starting pitcher at best and he’s been roughed up a bit here in April allowing 10 runs on 18 hits in 15.1 innings including 3 home runs. Houston is 0-3 in Feldman’s starts this season and his track record against Boston is horrendous. Feldman has been hammered for 22 runs in 13 innings over his last three starts against the Red Sox.

Boston lefty Henry Owens is slated to make his first start of the season. He has shown glimpses of potential but also struggled at times which is not atypical of a young pitcher like him. The Houston lineup has hit better against lefties this season batting 60 points better as a team against southpaws so the matchup should be a decent fit for them here. I’m not sure what to expect from Owens in this game but I definitely do not trust Scott Feldman to pitch well against the Red Sox here. I’d look toward Boston from a side perspective and possibly Over the total on MLB Odds as well in this Sunday Night Baseball AL showdown.
