San Francisco Giants

The Giants have a formidable starting rotation, led by Sunday's starter Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto and Matt Moore and their bullpen got a major upgrade with the addition of Mark Melancon, one of the best closers in the majors. Their starting lineup is not too formidable but if Posey and Pence stay healthy they can do some damage.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks expect to bounce back from last year's fourth-place finish in the National League West and it all starts with Zack Greinke, he has to pitch like an ace to keep their bullpen fresh and Shelby Miller also needs to have a bounce back season. Paul Goldschmidt is back and he will continue to be one of the most productive first basemen in the majors. He needs more lineup protection and if A.J. Pollock and David Peralta  stay healthy and deliver, this team can take a step forward.

Pitching Matchup
Madison Bumgarner (15-9, 2.74 ERA in 2016) vs. Zack Greinke (13-7, 4.37 ERA in 2016)

Madison Bumgarner finished 15-9 with a 2.74 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP with 251 strikeouts and 54 walks in 226.2 innings over 34 regular season starts last season and he went 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts against the Diamondbacks last year.

Zack Greinke went 13-7 with a 4.37 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP with 134 strikeouts and 41 walks. He couldn't match his numbers from 2015 and live up to expectations. Missing six weeks with a strained oblique muscle didn't help but he's more than capable of having a dominant season again. The right-hander was 2-2 with a 3.28 ERA in four starts against the Giants last year.

Betting Trends

The 'under' is 23-14-1 in the last 38 games between these two teams, 3-0 in Bumgarner's last three outings against Greinke and 8-3 in Bumgarner's last 11 starts against the Diamondbacks.

Final Analysis

The total for this game has been set at 8 on the MLB odds board but this promises to be a good pitching matchup between two of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Greinke posted a 4.81 ERA in 13 home starts last season but he's 9-2 with a 2.39 ERA in his last 12 starts against the Giants. Bumgarner has posted a 2.21 ERA in his last 12 starts against the Diamondbacks and this is a high total. Greinke and Bumgarner will keep this game with a low score. I'm taking 'under' 8 with my MLB picks.
