Chicago Cubs vs. Washington Nationals
This is a price range we’ve rarely seen the Chicago Cubs at since the beginning of the season and with my ongoing concerns about Max Scherzer still very much in effect here, the Cubs are a worthy bet at a very richly attractive underdog price on Monday night against the Washington Nationals.

Scherzer is coming off a good outing against the White Sox but he has struggled a bit at Nationals Park with a 4.50 ERA in 4 home starts with Washington just 2-2 as a team in those games. He was lit up by the Cubs in his prior start against them back in May surrendering 7 runs including 4 homers in just 5 innings of work and has given up 11 home runs in his last 7 starts. Kyle Hendricks will oppose Scherzer in this matchup for the Cubs and he’s been solid in terms of current form allowing just 5 runs in his last 22 innings of work.

He has dominated the Nationals in the past allowing 4 runs in 18 innings against Washington over three starts against them in his career and the Cubs were a perfect 3-0 in those games. This is all about value and with Chicago having a better road record of 20-10 than Washington’s 17-11 home record, the road underdog Cubs are absolutely a bet worth an MLB Pick at this +130 price tag.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Atlanta Braves
Daniel Wright and Aaron Blair (the two starters in this game) have potential down the road but they are struggling to find their way at the Major League level right now. Wright did not pitch well in his debut start with the Reds against the LA Dodgers allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings of work and his swinging strike rate of 6.9% which is quite low is indicative of someone not inducing many bad swings from opposing hitters.

Atlanta does not have a potent lineup by any stretch of the imagination but they have been at least moderately improved offensively of late scoring 3.86 runs per game against righties in their last 10 games and they should be able to have a reasonable amount of success against Wright and the still MLB worst Reds bullpen behind him.

On the flip side, Aaron Blair continues to get roughed up for Atlanta allowing 18 runs in 23.2 innings at Turner Field this season and has really battled control and command problems as he has averaged 5.35 walks per 9 innings which is more than his strikeouts per 9 innings average. He will be pitching on an extra day’s rest here but facing a Cincinnati lineup that has been very good of late scoring 7+ runs in 6 of their last 10 games may not be the formula for Blair to get back on track.

Cincinnati has gone 16-9 to the Over on the road and despite their offensive difficulties, Atlanta has still cashed as many Overs as Unders in their previous home games this season. I’ll take a shot with this game to go up and Over the total of 8.5 runs offered by the MLB Odds.
