Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals
We cashed a big underdog ticket on Milwaukee in the first game of this Brewers/Nationals series on Monday but I’m going to focus in on the total for the second game of this series on Tuesday night. Zach Davies has labored in two consecutive starts allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings against Washington last month and then was hit hard by the LA Dodgers surrendering 6 runs on 8 hits in just 4.1 innings and a second look at Davies for the Nationals lineup should be beneficial to them as they should be much more familiar with what he brings to the table.

Gio Gonzalez is on the mound for Washington and he continues to get hit hard repeatedly allowing 16 runs on 20 hits in his last 14.1 innings of work and got hammered by the Brewers at Miller Park a couple weeks ago allowing 6 runs and lasting only 3 innings and his most recent outing against Milwaukee here at Nationals Park wasn’t very good either as he got hit for 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings and both of those Gonzalez starts against Milwaukee sailed Over the total. I expect a similar result for MLB odds here with both lineups feasting on a pair of suspect starters for on what should be a warm evening in the nation’s capital.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Chris Tillman has had a very strong season overall but has hit a couple bumps in the road of late as he’s given up 14 runs on 21 hits in his last 14.2 innings of work over three straight starts. Tillman is facing the LA Dodgers for the first time in his career which could bode well for him but his recent declining form indicates he may not be up to the task to mow down a Dodgers lineup that has been on the uptick at the plate in recent games scoring 4+ runs in six of their last seven games. Kenta Maeda gets the nod here for the LA Dodgers and he’s been steady all season but has really benefitted from facing weaker lineups and in more pitcher friendly settings.

Baltimore’s powerful lineup is likely to be the toughest challenge that Maeda has faced yet and he’s yielded 3 home runs in two of his last three starts which is not optimal when facing a home run hitting teams like the Orioles. Maeda has rarely pitched more than 6 innings so that means LA’s bullpen should see some action and if that is the case, Baltimore could have an edge late in the game as they possess the deeper and overall better bullpen. I think there is some solid value in this price with Baltimore at an underdog price even with some concerns about Tillman because if the game is close late, the Orioles bullpen should have a bit of an advantage and I also like there to be plenty of runs scored in this game making the Over at a reasonable MLB pick.
