If you backed the Boston Red Sox in every game this season where Eduardo Rodriguez has been on the mound, you have a nice bankroll. He’s set to pitch twice this week.

Last week, we looked at the (non-injured) pitcher with the worst Intertops money units number in the majors, Cincinnati’s Homer Bailey. He had been -805 on the season, so of course he then went out as a +157 underdog Saturday at the Los Angeles Dodgers and got the win. Not that he pitched all that well, surrendering a season-high 10 hits along with three runs in five innings. Bailey was down 3-1 when he left the game, but the Reds scored four times in the top of the sixth. Oh well.

This time, let’s take the opposite track and look at the pitcher with the best Intertops money units mark on the year, Boston Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. He’s +713 because the Red Sox have won all seven of his starts even though Rodriguez has a blah 4.58 ERA and has allowed at least five runs in two of his starts. He’s personally 3-0 with batters hitting .209 off him. Rodriguez can struggle with walks (3.86 BB/9 rate) and allowing homers (1.45 HR/9), but the Sox have scored at least five runs in all but one of his outings.

The 25-year-old is scheduled to start twice this week. The first is Tuesday at home against Oakland, and Boston will be a sizable betting favorite against A’s pitcher Daniel Mengden (2-4, 4.06). It’s Rodriguez’s first look at the A’s this season. He’s 2-0 with a 1.4 ERA in three career starts against them, allowing just eight hits over 22 innings with 22 strikeouts. Current Oakland batters combine to hit just .119 off him. The only one to homer is backup shortstop Chad Pinder. Mengden, incidentally, took a no decision against the visiting Red Sox on April 22, allowing one run and six hits over 6.1 innings. He’s +$23 in money units. Oakland took two of three in that first Boston series.

Assuming no weather issues this week, Rodriguez is then slated to start Sunday at home against the AL East cellar-dwelling Baltimore Orioles. Rodriguez will certainly be another Intertops favorite there. Boston is 3-0 against the Birds in 2018. Rodriguez beat them on April 13 at Fenway, surrendering one run and five hits over six innings. Chris Davis struggles mightily with Rodriguez, going 5-for-27 with 14 strikeouts. Manny Machado is only 6-for-28 off him with four Ks. Mark Trumbo 4-for-20.

Scheduled opposite Rodriguez on Sunday is Andrew Cashner (1-4, 4.84), who is -$319 in money units. His lone victory came on April 5 at the Yankees, allowing one run over six innings. Baltimore lost his next five before winning last Wednesday vs. the Royals when Cashner took a no decision (6 IP, 3 ER). Homers have been a problem for him with 10 allowed in 44.2 innings.

In his career, Cashner is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA in two starts vs. the Red Sox. Hanley Ramirez has seen him the most but is just 3-for-25. Xander Bogaerts is 3-for-6 with a homer. He’s the only Boston batter to go yard off Cashner. Sunday’s game really sets up well to back Rodriguez because Boston is an amazing 12-1 in series finales, having won its past six.
