While the Dodgers turn to Rich Hill to continue their playoff hopes the Nats turn to ace Max Scherzer. Neither of them pitched particularly well in their only appearances this series but MLB odds makers have still set this total low for this deciding game.

Los Angeles Dodgers

In game two Rich Hill allowed four runs off of six hits in just over four innings of work in a loss to the Nationals.  This seems like the right call to put him on the mound but I am anticipating him to not go very deep as the Nats were able to get to him the second time around in the lineup.  Still, he did pitch a few good innings and had seven strikeouts in that short time frame.  That being said though I am sure Dave Roberts won't hesitate to make a move if he gets in any trouble being that there is no tomorrow.  So essentially this will likely come down to the bullpens and the Dodgers pen has been very good allowing just five earned runs in 16 innings along with 22 k's for a 2.81 ERA with the Nats hitting just .167 against them.  On the season they led the National League with a 3.35 ERA with batters hitting just .221 against them. Offensively Los Angeles has had enough clutch hits to keep them alive and the hit totals have been close, but one interesting stat is that the Nationals have had more hits in each game then the Dodgers have had so far in this series.

Washington Nationals

Max Scherzer gets the start for Washington and allowed four earned runs off of five hits in six innings versus the Dodgers in a game one loss. What hurt him in that first matchup was simply the fact that he gave up two home runs and I have a lot of trouble thinking the Dodgers will get to him in that same fashion in this game five. As mentioned, the Los Angeles bullpen has been excellent this postseason but surprisingly they have been outdone by Washington's. The Nationals bullpen has allowed just two earned runs in over 17 innings of work giving them a 1.02 ERA with Los Angeles hitting just .159 against them. I think it's going to be tough for both of these teams to score today and I think you can find some good value in backing the under.

L.A. Dodgers vs Washington Nationals

Odds makers have come out with a total of 7 across the board for this matchup with a little bit of higher juice on backing the over. Most sports books have some pretty good value on taking under the total so for my MLB pick I'm going to back the under like at 5 dimes, now offering a 50% free play bonus.
