Might Oakland be up to a monumental task of breaking through against the Los Angeles Dodgers now that Kershaw has been scratched from Wednesday's rotation? Find out what this handicapper predicts!
Abbreviated Inter-League Series Concludes at Dodgers Stadium
The Dodgers and A’s will conclude their short two game series in Los Angeles tonight at 10:10 PM ET. The A’s were a 2-0 winner on Tuesday behind a complete game three hit shutout performance by Sonny Gray.
Jesse Chavez will get the start tonight for Oakland. Chavez has gone a terrible 5-12 in his team starts this season, despite posting a very respectable 3.67 ERA and 1.27 WHIP during those outings. However, he’s displayed poor form over his previous four starts, posting a lofty 5.31 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. The Oakland right-hander has also struggled mightily in his last three road starts with a large 9.00 ERA and mammoth 2.31 WHIP. This will be his first career appearance versus the Dodgers.
Dodgers Clayton Kershaw has been scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday. Mike Bolsinger will get the nod instead. Bolsinger hasn’t pitched since last Wednesday’s outing versus Atlanta. The right-hander is in excellent form during his previous three starts with a 1.59 ERA and 0.77 WHIP.
Fire Sale has begun in Oakland
The A’s General Manager Billy Beane has thrown in the proverbial towel pertaining to Oakland’s playoff chances this year. During the last six days, he’s traded his starting pitching ace Scott Kazmir, one of his top relievers Tyler Clippard, and second basemen/outfielder Ben Zobrist. Last night’s win broke a four game losing streak for Oakland. However, that 2-0 win did little to resolve their recent offensive doldrums. The A’s have scored 3 runs or less in six of their previous seven games, and possess a lowly .226 team batting average during that time frame. Oakland has gone a dismal 2-10 this season following a shutout win.
Recent Offensive Funk for Dodgers
The Dodgers have lost three in a row and were outscored by a cumulative margin of 20-4. Los Angeles has scored 3 runs or less in six of the last seven, and possesses an anemic .208 team batting average over that period. On a positive note, they’re still a stellar 33-18 (.647) at home in 2015.
Granted the Dodgers are enduring a tough stretch offensively of late, but they should be able to do enough against a laboring Jesse Chavez tonight. I like the Dodgers to win by a very comfortable margin tonight for one of my MLB picks on Wednesday. The MLB betting odds at Heritage gives us a superb value in that regard.
MLB Picks: Play the Dodgers -1.5 (+125)
