The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants wrap up one of Major League Baseball’s best rivalries in the regular-season finale between the two NL West rivals. Read on for our Dodgers-Giants MLB picks.

The Dodgers and Giants did not have much of a rivalry this year, as Los Angeles enters the day 14-4 against San Francisco and has won 12 of the 13 meetings since the All-Star break. Will the Dodgers complete another emphatic sweep, or will the Giants end this season series on a high note?

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Sunday’s game between the Dodgers and Giants (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Dodgers vs. Giants Game Info

Date/Time: Sunday, Sept. 18, 7:10 p.m. ET
Location: Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA
Weather: 60 degrees, 74% chance of precipitation, 13-mph SSE wind

Dodgers vs. Giants Odds Analysis

Los Angeles’ moneyline odds vary from -170 to -185. Early bettors have not found those odds too steep, as 95% of the tickets and 91% of the cash have backed the favorites.

Most sportsbooks seem evenly split, with half offering totals of 7.5 and the other half at 8.0, so there is good value to be had depending on what side you prefer. As of early Sunday morning, all the money had been wagered on the Over.

Dodgers vs. Giants Projected Pitchers

Andrew Heaney (3-2, 2.84 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) vs. Alex Cobb (6-6, 3.48 ERA, 1.27 WHIP)

Andrew Heaney is making his 13th start of the season and has averaged fewer than five innings per start in his previous 12. Despite only pitching 57 innings this year, The Dodgers starter has amassed 84 strikeouts, which equates to a dazzling 13.3 K/9 rate.

Alex Cobb is unbeaten in his last seven starts, going 3-0 with a 2.20 ERA in that span. In two of his three September starts, the Giants starter blanked the Phillies and Braves over seven innings, holding them to nine combined hits and striking out 14 batters over the 14 innings. However, his other start was against the Dodgers when he was knocked out after 4.1 innings and allowed three earned runs.

Dodgers vs. Giants ML Pick

Dodgers RL (-105) ★★★★

Heaney was on the mound for San Francisco’s lone win against Los Angeles since the All-Star break, as the Giants rocked him for six runs in 5.1 innings, with four of the six hits as home runs. However, we do not trust Cobb either, as the Dodgers are the only opponent he has failed to complete five innings against in his previous 14 starts.

Caesars offers the cheapest moneyline odds (-170) for the Dodgers. However, considering they have covered the run line in all 14 wins against San Francisco, and 10 of the 12 wins head-to-head wins in the second half of the season have come by at least three runs, there is much better value in backing Los Angeles’ run line.

Los Angeles just became the quickest team to 100 wins since the 2001 Mariners and will be motivated to break its franchise record of 106 wins down the stretch.

Dodgers vs. Giants O/U Pick

Under 7.5 runs (-112) ★★

While the natural reaction would be to flock to the Over, given each pitcher’s struggles in their last starts against the opposition, we prefer the Under as a contrarian play. Since Aug. 1, San Francisco is 24th or worse in OPS, wOBA, and wRC+ at home against left-handed pitching. And while it ranks a respectable eighth in BABIP (.314) in that span, Heaney’s 13.3 K/9 rate neutralizes that strength.

The Under has cashed in four of Los Angeles’s last five games and nine of San Francisco’s previous 10, and we look for those trends to continue.

Dodgers vs. Giants Prop Pick

Betts to record an RBI (+145) ★★

Mookie Betts has by far the most at-bats of any Dodgers hitter against Cobb dating back to their Boston Red Sox-Tampa Bay Rays days.

Betts is 10-for-35 with two home runs and six career RBIs against Cobb. Even though he is hitting just .217 over his last five games, he has still managed to record three RBI. Thus, he is a good value play to record an RBI, given his track record against the opposing starting pitcher.
