It's a very interesting time in the 2016 MLB Season as some huge names have come up on the trading blocks. Respective teams will look for any edge that they can get. This also includes our MLB Picks of the Day for Sunday as we're looking for that edge to profit.

Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals
Every Game Counts. Both of these teams can relate to eachother as they both hold down 2nd place in their respective divisions. The Dodgers (55-44) are 4 games behind the San Francisco Giants as the Giants have been struggling and L.A. is looking to edge closer with a win tonight. Where the St. Louis Cardinals (52-45) are concerned, expectations are lower, but the Cards have managed to hang around, 6 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs as the Cubbies have slowed down after a quick start out of the gate at the beginning of the season.

A win here for both teams, is especially important. The Dodgers have one major thing going for them and that's a decisive advantage in the starting pitching department and that makes them a slight betting favorite on the road.

Scott Kazmir
He may never live up to expectations from when he was a rookie, but starter, Scott Kazmir, has carved out a nice career for himself. In his last 10 starts, he's really been consistent and on point, producing 8 out of 10 quality starts and one of the other starts was still a victory despite giving up 4 runs in 5 innings.

In Kazmir's last start, he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 8 batters and walking none in a 8-4 victory over a good Washington Nationals team. Kazmir is the type of pitcher that won't be overused; usually topping out at 90 pitches, but he's been very reliable for Los Angeles and a major reason why their divisional contenders.

The Dodgers have to be feeling good about themselves as they're coming off of a 7-2 victory over St. Louis. In this game, Adrian Gonzalez picked up his 8th home run of the season while Justin Turner, Joc Pederson ,and Corey Seager all contributed to the victory.

Revamped Cardinals Lineup
Everyone saw the beaning that Matt Holiday took to the head and he still kept playing a couple of games ago, but this is a somewhat new look St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. That said, they have guys at the top of the order in Aledmys Diaz (13 HR, 52 RBI, .318 BA) and Steven Piscotty (14 HR, 56 RBI, .293 BA)  who can get on base and still have the ability to go deep. Let's not forget Matt Adams.

Adams has hit a home run in each of his last 2 games. He's a player that you can't always determine how good that he is by his numbers as he comes up with timely hits. This game comes down  to the Cardinals offense against the pitching of Scott Kazmir and I'm going to have to side with the Dodgers as good pitching wins games and the Dodgers are a slightly better baseball team in this instance.

Atlanta Braves at Colorado Rockies
Coors Field Rules Not In Effect. The Atlanta Braves (33-65) might have their minds elsewhere as they are one of the favorites in landing Chris Sale. For now, it's finish out the season until some moves are made and look to improve the squad that the Braves do have.

Unfortunately for the Braves, they run into Colorado's best pitcher in Tyler Chatwoood (8-6, 3.83 ERA) and this is why I say Coors Rules are not in effect as there's quality starting pitching in this game wth Chatwood. Remember, I go according to the rule of whenever the starting pitchng is better than average, I bet under the total as these Coors Field betting totals are always bloated and this afternoon is no different. The total on the  MLB Odds for this game is listed at 12 runs and the under looks like the way to go.

A "Storybook" Season
The Rockies have actually had a respectable season at 46-51 and Trevor Story of Colorado, has really broke out in his first season with the team. Story has been dominant lately, going 9 for his last 19 at bats with , 8 runs, 5 HR and 10 RBI. He's also hitting .272 with 26 HR and 72 RBI. Are these numbers wind aided? I'm sure that they are, but the wind is also beneficial to the opposition. In this series, Colorado has taken all 3 games off of a lousy team.

The side is too high in taking Colorado, therefore we're going to lean in the direction of under the total for our MLB pick. 12 runs is a ton of runs and I look for these teams to calm down a bit, especially with Tyler Chatwood pitching.
