After losing at home to San Diego in extra innings, the San Francisco Giants are 1-5-2 in series this season and 2-4 against the Padres, who were regarded as the worst team in the major leagues. The Giants visit the rival Dodgers on Monday.

If losing to the Padres was not bad enough, San Francisco had to travel to SoCal to take on the hated Dodgers, and in the opening game the Giants have to face some dude named Kershaw. Los Angeles comes in on a four-game win streak and has to being feeling pretty spry.

Pitching Matchup: Cueto Vs. Kershaw

With Madison Bumgarner nursing a bum shoulder, Johnny Cueto (3-1) becomes the ace of the Giants staff, and he has not looked like it with a 5.10 ERA and opposing batters hitting .271 against him (.240 is career average). By all appearances, there is no health issue, Cueto has just been serving up too many pitches that are hittable and been getting tagged. Going up against a Dodgers batting order that averages 5.0 RPG vs. right-handed pitchers, this could be an issue. Cueto is 5-6 with a 2.86 ERA career vs. L.A.

After suffering what Clayton Kershaw (4-1) said was a "minor calf" injury, he was given an extra day between starts by manager Dave Roberts to make this start. After awhile it is difficult to keep coming up with superlatives to say about Kershaw, so instead we will just report the great numbers. The best pitcher in the sport has 2.29 ERA, WHIP of 0.79 and has struck out 39 while walking just three. The lefty is 19-8 with a silly 1.57 ERA vs. career San Fran.

 It's A Giant(s) Mess In San Francisco

Manager Bruce Bochy has the worst team in the National League, and if you have been making MLB picks, you know they have earned it with a 9-17 record and -33 run differential. Though we are just a month into the season, San Francisco has the pedigree to overcome it, yet when you look around not enough offense (3.3 RPG), while permitting 4.6 RPG. Maybe something magical occurs; however, that is hard to figure.

Los Angeles has been like an old car in need of a tune-up, kind of chugging along, sometimes misfiring when you step on the gas. Maybe this winning streak will spur the Dodgers on, and they are up to 9-4 at home (1.8 units). Hardly a better time for L.A. to take advantage of their rivals.

Betting Odds, History & Bullpen Numbers

Sportsbooks know about how baseball bettors back Kershaw against the MLB odds and they have made Los Angeles a -230 favorite with total of 6. L.A. has won 12 of past 18 at Chavez Ravine and the total dead even at 9-9. As expected the Dodgers are second in bullpen ERA and San Francisco is still scuffling at 11th in the NL.

The Winner Is ...

These teams just played three one-run contests in Frisco, and the fourth game was 1-1 in the 10th inning before the Dodgers exploded for 4 runs. No question this is a very challenging wager from any aspect, with no great options, in my opinion. With no value anywhere, I will bite the bullet, bet the big money line on Kershaw and Co. and hope I don't get burned.
