Los Angeles is hot and St. Louis is not. Join us for a preview and free MLB pick for Game 2 of the four-game set at Busch Stadium between the surging Dodgers and sinking Cardinals on Tuesday.

MLB Season Record: 21-33 (-13.46)

Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are heating up to close in on the Rockies atop the NL West. The same can’t be said for the St. Louis Cardinals who have lost 9 of 12 to fall back to a level .500 on the year,

The old foes continue their series in St. Louis in front of ESPN’s cameras on Tuesday (7:05 PM ET), 5Dimes dusting the Dodgers with a -110 chalk line behind Kenta Maeda on the mound. He’ll be opposed by Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha, 8½ your game total.

Los Angeles won for a fifth straight time Monday, using three homers and four shutout innings from the bullpen to post the 5-1 decision in a game that closed with the Cards slight favorites on the MLB odds. This series is a quick rematch of a set in LA just last week when the Dodgers took two of three. Monday’s encounter stayed ‘under’ the total, leaving low-side bettors 9-3 in the last 12 between the clubs at Busch.

Maeda Looking For 3rd Straight Win Over Cardinals

Tonight’s mound duel is also a rematch from last week at Dodger Stadium, Maeda and Los Angeles prevailing by a 7-3 count. The Cardinals gifted Wacha with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but he couldn’t make it stand up and was chased two batters into the fifth having surrendered six of LA’s runs.

Maeda won his only appearance in St. Louis during his 2016 rookie campaign, pitching into the sixth of a 7-2 Dodgers victory. The setback last week in Los Angeles was the fourth loss for St. Louis in Wacha’s last five assignments, though the only one in that span which was truly his own doing. Chase Utley, Yasmani Grandal and Corey Seager are three batters in the lineup that have given Wacha trouble over the years.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Mark Wegner is next in line to call balls and strikes for Mike Winters’ crew, the Minnesota native currently 4-6-1 O/U/P in the totals column when he works the plate. Home teams are 9-2 with Wegner behind the dish, but 0-1 when playing the role of underdogs as we have in this contest. This is his first look at either the Dodgers or Cardinals this season, his last plate duty in St. Louis a little more than a year ago and ending with a Redbird defeat and ‘over’ winner.

The chance of rain increases as the game progresses this evening but shouldn’t prevent the contest from being finished. Look for temps in the low-to-mid 70s and a light SW breeze (out to center) at game time. Also look for Los Angeles to continue its win streak with my free baseball pick on the visitors.
