Will the underachieving Padres begin to turn things around with a win tonight? Can Arizona continue their climb up the NL West standings? Read this betting article for all the answers.
NL West Clash on Saturday Night between Padres and D-Backs
A couple of NL West rivals will meet again on Saturday night when San Diego hosts Arizona at 10:10 PM ET. According to the MLB betting odds at Pinnacle, Arizona is a -102 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.5. These teams have played each other eight times this season, and each has won on four occasions.
The Padres will send Tyson Ross to the mound tonight. Ross is in shaky form over his last three starts, posting a 5.06 ERA, and a huge 1.94 WHIP. Ross is 0-3 in his team starts at Arizona since 8/26/2013, posting a lofty 6.00 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in those outings. The Padres right-handed hurler is a dismal 6-16 in his team starts since the beginning of last season when he’s installed at +125 to -125 on the money line.
Arizona’s southpaw Robbie Ray will make his fifth start of the season tonight for Arizona. In his first four starts he’s been terrific while posting an excellent 1.09 ERA. This will be his first career start versus the Padres.
Padres Funk Continues
The Padres have continued to struggle this season despite a newly revamped and high priced roster. As a matter of fact, the slow start cost long time manager Bud Black his job this past week. The managerial change hasn’t made any difference thus far. San Diego has gone 1-4 since Black was fired, and they’re 4-9 in their last thirteen games. The Padres have scored 2 runs or less in 5 of their last 7 games, and they have a horrible team batting average of .212 during that anemic offensive stretch.
Here come the D-Backs
Arizona has garnered some momentum recently by going 6-2 in their last eight games. That recent run has improved their record to 33-34 this season, and they’re currently third in the NL West just 4.5 games behind the first place L.A. Dodgers.
Money Line Betting Angle
The Padres bullpen has a horrible 9.60 ERA over their previous five games, and they’ve also had a poor .190 team batting average during that time. San Diego is currently installed as a -106 money line favorite tonight at Pinnacle. The combination of these three pieces of data produces a profitable money line betting system, and I’ll utilize that valuable handicapping tool when making one my MLB picks for Saturday.
Play against any road team (Padres) which is -100 to -150 on the money line, possessing a bullpen ERA of 7.00 or more during their previous five games, and also has a team batting average of .225 or less in those last five games. This system has resulted in the home team going 36-16 (69.2%) against the money line since 2011.
