The Arizona D’Backs and NY Mets continue their early week set with Game 2 scheduled for a 7:10 ET first pitch. Don't miss SBR capper's MLB picks.

Arizona D’Backs (Ray) vs. N.Y Mets (Colon)
Last night, the D’Backs scored 3 in the 7th to come away with a 5-3 victory. Based on tonight’s pitching matchup and the current form of the D’Backs, it is highly improbable they will duplicate that victory. As a result, at a reduced road price from a (-145) opener, we are eager to step in with the NY’ers to even this series.

On July 1st, I indicated that Arizona figured to be the biggest towel tosser in MLB. Though they have gone 3-4 since that report (and won consecutive games), they remain on a 12-27 slide. At this date, only the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves have a worse record than the D’Backs. Tonight’sstarter for Atlanta, Robbie Ray, is not likely to help their cause. Most recently, Ray has lost 3 consecutive decisions, lasting only 16 2/3 IP. He comes off 6 innings of work, in which he allowed 6 runs and 10 baserunners to Washington. With a record of 5-11 and 4.83 ERA, he could figure to be in for a tough night against an angry and hungry NY team.

The Mets are having problems creating momentum for themselves, failing to win consecutive games since July 8th. They enter tonight on a 10-17 slide. Yet, they still trail in the Wild Card race by only 2½ games. Remember that it was just 10 short months ago that this Mets’ organization appeared in the World Series. Tonight, they send veteran starter, Bartolo Colon, the aging (43) portly, right-hander appeared to be struggling with the summer heat in July. Though he has been a bit inconsistent, he has still posted a record of 10-6 with a 3.46 ERA. Colon comes off a start in which he worked 6 2/3 IP, allowing just 1 run to the Angels. With a dominant edge in the bullpen, it is unlikely that the Mets blow a late-inning lead tonight.

Despite the D’Backs’ recent success, I still have them pegged for one of the teams who continue their fade in August and September. It is improbable that Ray extends their mini-winning streak. Far prefer the veteran Colon and a NY team playing with hunger and anger off the loss last night. I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the NY Mets tonight.
