A few important metrics point to a high scoring affair tonight in Denver where The Colorado Rockies welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to Coors Field for the opener of a 4 game series.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies
The Dbacks come in winners of five of their last six games and send ace Zack Greinke to the hill. He will oppose former 1st round draft choice Eddie Butler for the Rockies.  Butler has struggled throughout the year, but he well paid Greinke has been solid of late, but a few important metrics point to a high scoring affair tonight in Denver.

Arizona’s front of the rotation starter Zack Greinke started slow with his new team but has turned things around and is looking for his eighth consecutive winning start tonight. The 32 year old Floridian has allowed just three total runs over his last four outings and is one win shy of being tied for the National League lead. He has also been remarkable on the road this season posting a 5-0 away record with a 1.47 ERA in six outings.

Having said all the positives, his away record this year does not include any starts in Coors Field where the Arizona ace has struggled mightily. Greinke sports over a 1.7 WHIP in almost 40 innings pitched in the hitter’s haven over the last twelve years. Grienke will also have to deal with a couple hitters in the Rockies lineup that see the ball well coming out of his right arm. Carlos Gonzalez is 12 for 31 with four homeruns and Trevor Story is 3 for 7 with two homeruns. Also keep in mind, Nolan Arenado has hit four of his major league leading 21 homers against the Diamondbacks and has gone deep 13 times in 51 career games against Arizona.

Greinke’s counterpart is Eddie Butler, who gets the start due to one of the positive surprises of the Rockies rotation Tyler Chatwood out due to an injury. Butler out of Radford University replaced the injured Chatwood in relief against Miami last Saturday and was hammered for six runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. The Rockies righty has been hit hard of late giving up 24 hits and 17 earned runs his last three times out. He only made it past the fifth inning once. It will not get any easier for Butler tonight as the Diamondbacks offense has been heating up of late scoring 28 runs in the last six games, a big reason is Paul Goldschmidt is batting .342 in June.

Tonight’s National League West matchup should be an entertaining one to watch, with the likelihood of both lineups getting to the bullpen early. Both teams have a below average bullpen, with each unit posting a 1.35 WHIP from their relievers so far this season, that ranks both pens in the bottom half of MLB. Zack Greinke has turned his baseball odds around from the rough start, but he still is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in two 2016 starts against the Rockies. I project both the Rockies and the Dbacks lineups to have big night’s and in the most hitter’s friendly park in baseball, runs should come in bunches. The market has pushed this total up to 11 tonight a mile high, but I believe it is still not high enough. I recommend as MLB pick the over tonight in Coors.
