Tampa Bay Rays (Moore) vs. Oakland Athletics (Gray)
The first game at the O. co Coliseum is set for a 10:05 first pitch. After Tampa Bay suffered a 3-23 slide it is no surprise to this bureau that they have responded to our “buy sign” with a 3-1 turnaround. We will follow that momentum with our Under Dog of the Day against the Oakland team who comes off 7-0 lose on this field to Houston Wednesday afternoon.

Little was expected of Oakland this season. The Athletics played to the projections with a 42-53 mark, that includes 21-28 on this field.  did show signs of life in late June with a 6-1 surge but that was sandwiched between a dip of 3-12 and their current run of 7-10. A major reason for Oakland’s poor performance this season has been the work of tonight's starter, Sonny Gray. Gray was among the best pitchers in the American league last season. In his defense, he suffered a right trapezius strain which forced him to the DL. But the numbers speak for themselves. For the season Gray is 4-8 with a 5.12 ERA. One of his better starts was his most recent outing against Toronto in which he allowed just 3 runs in 6 IP. Prior to that, however, Gray was 0-7 in his 12 previous starts, allowing 7 or more runs in 3 of those.

At the All Star Break, Tampa Bay was on a disastrous slide that left them with the 4th worst record in baseball. The nadir of their discontent came when they bottomed out at 3-23 5 days ago. Yet I am firm in my conviction that since the Rays batting and pitching OPS numbers are well above their record that the buy sign is accurate. This was confirmed when the Rays beat the Rockies by a combined score of 21-4 the last 2 nights. Tonight starter, Moore, has gotten less than he deserved with just a 5-7 record. In his most recent 7 starts, Moore has a 2.51 ERA while allowing 2 or fewer runs in 6 of those 7 starts. Moore enters tonight on a 38 / 13 KBB run.

With all systems go for the resurgence Rays I invite you to put the MLB Odds in your favor with my MLB Dog of the Day Pick on Tampa Bay
