Ross Benjamin goes over the MLB odds relating to two very competitive starting pitching matchups on Tuesday. Read this revealing article that uncovers wagering values in the games between the Phillies/Marlins and Giants/Dodgers.

Phillies vs. Marlins 7:10 PM ET
The Phillies veteran Cole Hamels has pitched far better than his 15-13 money line record would indicate. He’s compiled a terrific 2.47 ERA during those 28-starts. He’s been even better that in 15-starts on the road with an excellent 1.76 ERA. Unfortunately for Hamels,  he’s gone 0-5 in his last 5 against the money at Miami, despite having a decent 3.30 ERA in those outings.

The Marlins Henderson Alvarez has given the Marlins a lot to look forward to in future years. He’s gone an excellent 19-9 against the money this season, and that includes 11-2 at home with a superb 1.75 ERA. Alvarez has gone 3-2 against the money versus the Phillies in 2014, and posted a stellar 1.87 ERA in those 5-outings.

Advantage: Kudos to Cole Hamels for the productive season he’s turned in. However, as I alluded to earlier, Hamels has had bad luck in recent road starts versus the Marlins. It’s extremely difficult to fade Henderson Alvarez the way he’s pitched at home this season. My betting edge goes to Alvarez of the Marlins over Hamels of the Phillies.

Giants vs. Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Madison Bumgarner has been lights out on the road this season, going 13-4 against the moneyline MLB odds, posting a 2.05 ERA, and just shy of a 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He’s gone 3-1 against the money versus the Dodgers in 2014 with an excellent 1.76 ERA.

Zack Greinke has been rock solid in 30-starts this season for the Dodgers, compiling a very good 2.76 ERA. The Dodgers hurler has gone a perfect 6-0 against the money in his career versus the Giants, including 4-0 this season, and posted a paltry 1.38 ERA in those 4-outings.

Advantage: This is too tough of a call pertaining to the betting edge for either one of these starters. For my MLB picks today, I do have a strong lean toward this one being a low scoring affair, and despite the extremely low number, I would seriously contemplate making a wager on going under the total.
