Although the line looks a bit low considering Cueto's pitching for the Reds tonight. For my MLB picks, I'm backing the under the total when the Cincinnati Reds visit the Philadelphia Phillies.

Seven
MLB odds makers have come out with a total of 7 for this game.  Even with a solid pitcher on the mound like Johnny Cueto this like looks a bit on the low side.  With a little research though it starts to makes more sense when we analyze the pitchers and the offenses.

Pitchers
Cueto takes the mound for the Reds and comes in with an ERA of 3.03 and a WHIP just below 1.00.  He is coming back from a minor injury and is healthy to make the start today against a weak hitting Phillies team.  On the year he has been roughed up on the road with and ERA above 4.00 but he should have some success today in Philadelphia.  For the Phillies Sean O’Sullivan gets the call and comes in with a 4.81 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.  He has actually pitched better than those numbers allowing a combined 11 runs in his first five starts until he got knocked around at the Mets his last outing allowing seven earned runs.

Worst and Not First
The Phillies have statistically the worst offense in baseball.  They rank in the bottom five in most offensive categories and are last in runs per game and slugging percentage.  The Reds don’t have a lot to brag about, they rank in the bottom half of the league in most offensive categories and rank 22nd in both runs per game and batting average.

With the combination of decent pitching and subpar offenses this could be pretty boring game to watch, take the under with your MLB picks.
