Colorado Rockies

Tuesday, May 9, 2017 4:40 PM GMT

With Chicago coming off a sweep at the hands of the Yankees, is fading the visitors and backing the kid the best bet here or is looking to the Totals market the best pick here in the Centennial State?

Odds Overview

RHP Jake Arrieta (4-1, 4.63 ERA) and the Cubs (16-14) are in  Coors Field in Denver to face RHP and NL Rookie of the Month Antonio Senzatelaand the upstart Rockies in Game 1 of a Doubleheader on Tuesday in a game rescheduled after a Monday Rain and hail-out. Oddsmakers now have the Cubs as -125 favorites with the Total at 10½o -115 and the Cubs -1½ +120 with the Rockies +1½ -140 on the Run Line. In Game 2 on Tuesday night, Chicago sends John Lackey to the mound against Kyle Freeland with Kyle Hendricks facing Germán Márquez in Game 3 Wednesday (3:10 pm ET).

 Chicago Cubs

The Cubs are coming off a 7-game Homestand (PHI-NYY) which saw the world champions go 3-4 after getting swept by the red-hot Yankees (21-9) Sunday night. In that Game 3 against NY, Cubs Manager Joe Maddon’s starting lineup was: LF Schwarber, 3B Bryant, 1B Rizzo, RF Zobrist, SS Russell, CF Jay, C Contreras, P Jon Lester with 2B Báez hitting ninth.

Chicago is 60-26 L81 Game 1’s, 5-1 L6 vs. NL West, 35-16 L51 Mondays and 37-15 L52 Arrieta road starts but 1-5 L6 Arrieta Starts vs. NL West. The Over is 16-6 L22 Chicago overall while the Under is 4-1 L5 Arrieta starts vs. NL West. The Cubbies are a costly 10-21 on the run line.

 Colorado Rockies

The Rockies seem like the Yankees of the Senior Circuit with Manager Bud Black enjoying some pleasant Spring surprises like Monday’s starter, Rookie Antonio Senzatela who was named NL Rookie of the Month for April after going 3-1 with a 2.81. Against the Diamondbacks in Sunday’s rubber game at 20th and Blake, Black had a starting nine of CF Blackmon, 2B LeMahieu, LF Desmond, RF González, 1B Reynolds, SS Story, 3B Valaika, C Garneau with Tyler Chatwood starting. Colorado star 3B Nolan Arenado was given the day off so check his status.

Colorado is 8-3 L11 Game 1’s and 5-1 L6 Senzatela Starts but 1-4 L5 Home heading into Sunday and 1-4 L5 vs. Winning-Record teams. The Under is 13-6 L19 Rockies Home games vs RHPs and 9-3-1 L13 Mondays while the Over is 4-0 L4 Colorado Home dates vs. Teams with Winning Records.

 Denver Weather, Series, Umpire Trends

TWC forecast for Denver on Tuesday afternoon calls for Scattered Thunderstorms, a High around 65° with 5-10 N Winds. Arrieta allowed 9 Runs in 5 IP in his only previous outing in Denver (2014) while impressive Rox Rookie Senzatela has gone at least 6 IP five straight starts. Colorado is an impressive 16-7 L23 in Colorado in this series with the Over 4-1 L5 meetings.

Mark Reynolds (10/26/.315) and the Rockies have been great so far this young season but have hardly been dominant at Home (COL 8-7) and Denver and its 5,280 feet of Altitude might be welcoming for Chicago (9-6 Road), who like the Rockies (11-5 Road), have played better on the Road so far. Even with the two 4-1 Pitchers starting, Chicago got a needed chance to Rest on Monday from the 18-inning Extra Inning marathon, the Homestand and the Travel. So Runs should be scored here if the Weather cooperates and the Cubs are trending toward being an Over team on the Road (22-8-1 L31) makes the Over the pick.
