Another huge pitching matchup is on tap as Jake Arrieta and the Cubs take on Madison Bumgarner and the Giants. For this matchup, we are going to look at the total as MLB odds makers have said it naturally very low. Will these two come in and put up a lot of zeros?

Chicago Cubs

Jake Arrieta gets the start for Chicago and comes in with a 3.10 ERA and 1.08 whip but a 3.59 ERA on the road this season. Despite that "high" ERA he was still 11-3 with batters hitting just .203 against him when the Cubs traveled. In his last road start he had his worst outing of the season allowing seven earned runs off of 10 hits in five innings at Pittsburgh. As well, his road start prior to that he allowed three earned runs in five innings and Houston along with a few games earlier allowing four earned runs in six innings at Chicago. Despite those numbers though we are talking about one of the premier pitchers in baseball and sandwiched in between those three tough outings were two games in which he threw 16 innings allowing zero earned runs off of five hits at Oakland and San Diego. He has pitched well against the Giants this season and in his only opportunity to pitch in San Francisco he allowed just one earned run off of four hits in seven innings. Expect for him to be his old reliable self and keep the Giants to minimal damage.

San Francisco Giants

Madison Bumgarner takes the mound for San Francisco and comes in with a 2.74 ERA and 1.02 whip along with a 2.14 ERA at home where batters are hitting just .195 against him. If your season is on the line and you're in the postseason this is the guy you want on the mound and I don't think for this write up I need to go in and talk about his  postseason numbers which are off the charts. At home he has been incredible and against the Cubs in two appearances he has been very good allowing just two earned runs off of eight hits in almost 14 innings of work. I have a hard time believing Chicago is going to come in and knock him around  and I look for him to possibly go all nine innings being that there is no tomorrow for San Francisco. At the plate neither of these teams have been setting the world on fire so look for both these pitchers to come in and do what they do best.
