We are eager to share our betting insight for tonight's Cubs vs. Cardinals game. Our betting preview article for this NL Central rivalry match culminates with a totals selection.

NL Central Rivalry renewed on Monday at Busch Stadium
A couple of old NL Central rivals square off on Monday when the Cardinals host the Cubs at 8:10 PM ET. According to the MLB Odds at Heritage, St. Louis is a -147 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. These teams met in a short two game series in April which was cut short by inclement weather. Each club won a game, and both easily stayed under the total with final scores of 2-0 in addition to 3-0.

Starting Pitchers
The Cubs will go with southpaw Travis Wood on the mound for the opener of this four game series. Wood has displayed excellent form during his previous three starts, posting a stellar 2.37 ERA, and a superb 0.84 WHIP. The Cubs won all three of those outings. It must be noted, Wood has struggled in his career versus the Cardinals, and specifically when pitching at St. Louis. Since the start of the 2012 season, Wood has gone 1-4 in his team starts at Busch Stadium, and posted a large 7.30 ERA in those outings.

Carlos Martinez will get the start tonight for the Cardinals. The young right-hander has been terrific in his last three starts, going 3-0, and posting an outstanding 1.42 ERA. This will be his first career start versus the Cubs.

Final Analysis
Both of these teams have gone under the total in each of their last three games. The Cardinals have seen all four of their games versus southpaw starting pitchers go under the total this season, and they’ve averaged just 1.7 runs scored per contest scored in those affairs. The St. Louis bullpen has been nothing short of spectacular to start the 2015 season, posting a collective 1.51 ERA as a staff. The Cubs have averaged a paltry 3.0 runs scored per outing during their previous seven games. I like this game to be a low scoring affair for one of my MLB picks on Monday.
