The Cubs entered the season with optimism but they were unable to get the job done on Opening Day. Now they’ll try a 2nd time time to get a win against the Cardinals. Check our MLB Pick inside.

The St. Louis Cardinals Can Win Because…
They’ve got Lance Lynn on the mound. Although he’s not usually the first name that comes up when the discussion of the best pitchers in the National League comes up, the numbers show otherwise. He ranks among the NL’s leaders in wins with 48 over the last three seasons. Last year, he had a sparkling 2.74 ERA with a 15-10 record. That’s quite impressive. The only time he faced the Cubs last season, he held them to just two runs in six innings.

The Cards are in the driver’s seat in this matchup. They are the better team here but there is so much hype around the Cubs that you get this line at a PICK on MLB odds board. Meanwhile, the Cubs have tons of pressure on them to deliver because if they fall to 0-2, the media is going to start picking them apart already. The Cards should be able to come into Wrigley, play their patient game and take advantage of the Cubs again.

The Chicago Cubs Can Win Because…
They’ve got their second best pitcher on the mound. Sure, Lester was a little off the mark on Sunday but there was a lot of pressure on him. Now Jake Arrieta steps to the mound and he should be much more comfortable. He was excellent last season, posting a 2.53 ERA in 25 starts while going 10-5. He’s got a great track record against some of the Cards as Matt Holliday and Matt Carpenter are a combined 0-for-23 against Arrieta.

Remember that home-field advantage is worth something here – even though the lines show this game virtually as a PICK. They the Cards won 90 games last season but were just 39-42 on the road. Meanwhile, the Cubs had just 73 wins last season but were still a positive 41-40 at Wrigley Field.

Outlook
This is a challenging spot for the Cubs but it should be easier than the opener. First off, it looks like the team was a tad overrated to start and there was a ton of pressure on them playing at home in the first game of the 2015 MLB season. They should be a little more relaxed in this one. And now they’ve got Arrieta on the mound, who was one of their shining stars from last season.

And if you’re adding the Cubs to your MLB picks, you’re getting a better price on the MLB betting lines here than you were in the opener. That being the case, I’m looking for them to bounce back and get the win in this spot. This should be a much more comfortable situation for them than Sunday.
