The New York Mets have lost back-to-back games to the Chicago Cubs as huge favorites, and they'll look to salvage a contest during the series on Wednesday. Here are our Cubs-Mets MLB picks for Wednesday night.

This week was supposed to be an easy one for the Mets. But they’ve dropped the first two games against the Cubs, and their NL East lead has slipped to half a game.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are enjoying playing spoiler, and they've won three of their last five games. They’re now at 60-82 on the season.

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Wednesday’s Cubs-Mets game (odds via BetRivers, DraftKings Sportsbook, and FanDuel Sportsbook; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Cubs vs. Mets Game Info

Date: Wednesday, Sept. 14, 7:10 p.m. ET
TV: MARQ, SNY
Location: Citi Field, Queens, NY
Weather: 75 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation, 6.5-mph winds

Cubs vs. Mets Odds Analysis

The Mets are up to between -195 (DraftKings) and -210 (Unibet) after opening at -180, with the Cubs up to +170 (Unibet) following a +150 opening. The Mets are getting 94% of the cash and 91% of the tickets.

The total opened at 7.5 and is now between 7 and 8 across the board. The Over on 7.5 is drawing 85% of the cash and 70% of the tickets.

Cubs vs. Mets Projected Pitchers

Drew Smyly (6-8, 3.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) vs. David Peterson (7-4, 3.47 ERA, 1.33 WHIP)

Smyly has been inconsistent recently. He gave up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings to open September, but then he threw seven innings of one-hit ball against the San Francisco Giants last time out. The Cubs are 8-12 during his starts.

Peterson hasn’t pitched deep into games, but he’s been giving the Mets a great chance to win. New York is 12-6 in his appearances and 8-1 at home. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in a game over his last 11 starts.

Cubs vs. Mets Moneyline Pick

Mets (-195) ★★★★★

The Cubs aren't going to sweep the Mets. I don’t mind the run line at -1.5 (+112 through BetRivers). But I’d rather lock in the moneyline, even at -195.

New York is 28-20 against left-handers and 51-27 against losing teams in 2022 (20-11 during the second half). Meanwhile, Chicago is 15-24 against left-handed starters and 32-46 against winning teams (14-21 in the second half).

Additionally, the Mets are 8-1 during Peterson’s nine starts at Citi Field. He’s been a stopper at home, and that should continue tonight.

Cubs vs. Mets O/U Pick

Under 7.5 (-104) ★★★

Smyly has largely pitched to the Under in 2022, and the Mets haven't been hitting well recently. The Under is 14-5 over Smyly’s 19 starts (8-4 on the road), including 6-1 across his last seven outings. Peterson's record on the total is more evenly split.

The Over has hit just once during the six meetings between these teams in 2022, and in three of the previous 13 since the beginning of 2021.

Cubs vs. Mets Prop Pick

Escobar over 1.5 total bases (+135) ★★★★

Escobar is 7-for-12 hitting against Smyly during his career with four home runs. That makes sense because the switch-hitter is slugging .486 against lefties and .401 when facing righties in 2022.

Despite getting more than double the amount of at-bats against right-handers (287) than lefties (142), Escobar has produced 19 extra-base hits against southpaws and 25 against righties.
