The MLB night session for Wednesday is filled with teams that are desperate looking for playoff spots. These are the best type of games to bet as each team know's that they need to win each and every game. We're going to take advantage of this fact in our MLB Picks of the Day.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox

Log Jam In the AL East Division
Basically, every team in the division has a chance for a post-season berth with the exception of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Boston Red Sox (81-63) have a flimsy 2 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles. Both the O's and the Red Sox have a wild-card berth to fall back on, but that's a one game situation and the division title is within both teams grasps.

Tonight, 20 game winner, Rick Porcello, get's the start and he's pitched "above his head" all season long and the Red Sox need him to continue to do so as time is running short. Porcello will be pitching in the friendly confines of Fenway Park, but will also be facing a hard-hitting Baltimore Orioles squad.

From Career .500 Pitcher to 20 Game Winner
Rick Porcello may never win 20 games again, but this season, he's earned it despite having a very formidable Red Sox offense supporting him. He's been successful because he's been the model of consistency. In Porcello's last 9 outings, he hasn't allowed more than 3 runs in any start. He's also 7-1 during this period of time. Rick Porcello is a pitcher that will provide the Boston Red Sox with 7 innings per start minimum and that's very rare for starting pitchers in 2016. He's not a huge strikeout pitcher, but he doesn't allow many free passes and has also held the opposition to a .232 batting average. Boston looks strong going into this game with the backbone of their pitching staff getting the start.

"One Strike Off the Bat"
Although Boston looks strong, the Baltimore Orioles possess a ton of power with 6 players with 20 home runs or more, led by Mark Trumbo. Whether it's Manny Machado, Chris Davis,Adam Jones, or even Jonathan Schoop, the Orioles can change the complexion in any game with one swing of the bat or a barrage of power being displayed on any given night. If Baltimore were to make the post-season, it's because of their offense and for them to have a chance in this game, it's also because of their offense.

The MLB odds are very reasonable and I like the way that Rick Porcello has kept his composure during "crunch time". Look for Boston to take down Baltimore in this matchup.

Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves

Fernandez vs. Teheran
That's all you need to know in this game as both of these pitchers are top-rate despite being on teams that won't be going to the post-season. While Julio Teheran isn't quite the talent that Jose Fernandez is, he's pitched to a more than acceptable 3.01 ERA and his offense have simply disappointed him. Teheran has just 2 wins in his last 8 starts despite providing 7 quality starts out of those 8 appearances.

The Atlanta Braves have picked up their offensive game, led by Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp, but it just hasn't been enough. That said, the Braves will be hosting a 72-73 Miami Marlins team that basically played themselves out of the playoffs by having a terrible mid-August and September. Even with Jose Fernandez (14-8, 2.90 ERA) getting the start, this game could be up for grabs for the MLB picks.

Regaining His Old Form
Ever since Matt Kemp went down with a quad injury as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he's never been the same player....until now. Lately, Kemp has been playing like the superstar that he used to be; the one that competed for the triple crown.

In his last 28 at-bats, he's hitting a scorching .464 with 3 HR and 4 RBIs. For the season, Kemp has elevated his batting average over .280 and has 31 HR and 98 RBI. The Atlanta Braves have gotten a steal in Matt Kemp and he provides protection for Freddie Freeman. Look for Kemp to possibly have an effect in this game.

I know that Jose Fernandez is nearly unhittable when he's in full form and the Braves have been a lousy team at home, but the Braves are good value as the home underdog and there could possibly be an upset in this game.
