Who has the MLB wagering edge when Steven Strasburg squares off with up and coming Henderson Alvarez of the Marlins tonight? Will Josh Beckett get any run support against the Braves and Aaron Harang? Read our resourceful MLB handicapping article to unlock the answers, and cash in on your MLB bets.

Washington Nationals (Stasburg) vs. Miami Marlins (Alvarez) 7:10 PM ET
The Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg hasn’t been anywhere close to the dominant pitcher that we’ve witnessed in recent years. He’s gone 11-11 against the money this season, and has lost 5.7 MLB betting units. The power throwing right-hander enters tonight in bad form over his last 3-starts, posting a 5.00 ERA, and a lofty 1.61 WHIP. He’s gone just 4-6 against the money on the road in 2014 with a hefty 5.09 ERA. Strasburg has seen his last 4-starts at Miami all go over the total while posting a massive 11.65 ERA and 2.11 WHIP in the process.

The Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez has been rock solid at home this season going 8-2 against the money with a better than 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio. His entire body of work in 2014 speaks volumes as he’s gone 14-7 against the money, and earned a profit of 8.00 MLB wagering units. Since the start of the 2013 season, the Marlins hurler has started 5-times versus Washington, and posted a stellar 2.63 ERA.

There’s not much that I could add that I haven’t covered already in the previous 2-paragraphs. Alvarez has been terrific at home this year, and Strasburg has struggled mightily in South Florida during recent starts. My edge goes to Henderson Alvarez over Steven Strasburg tonight.

Atlanta Braves (Harang) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (Beckett) 10:10 PM ET
The Braves starter Aaron Harang enters tonight in very good form during his last 3-starts posting an excellent 1.35 ERA, and all 3 of those games stayed under the total. The Braves veteran right-hander has gone 3-0 against the money line in his last 3 road starts with a stellar 2.25 ERA.

The Dodgers starter Josh Beckett has pitched much better than his record this season may indicate. The Dodgers right-hander has gone a subpar 8-10 against the money this year despite compiling a sparkling 2.60 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. Beckett has allowed 6-hits or less in 15 of his 18-starts this season, including a no-hitter at Philadelphia on May 25th. He hasn’t started a game versus the Braves since 2009. However, the Dodgers veteran hurler allowed no earned runs in 6 of his last 7-starts versus Atlanta.

I don’t see a clear edge for either of these pitchers tonight. I do like this to be an old fashioned pitcher’s duel, and to play on the low side of the total.
