The Angels are struggling in a major way right now, so they need a quality outing out of Garrett Richards tonight against the Rays. What kind of MLB odds are no offer in this spot?
The MLB odds vary depending on which sportsbook you use, but most sites have the Angels barely favored in the -105 to -115 range. If you want to jump on the best value out there and lock in a great number, 5Dimes is offering the lowest out there at -105, and that may not last too long.
Some sites also have the Rays listed at -105, with others offering the even number of +100. We're expected to see a low-scoring game in this situation, as odds makers have posted a total of just seven runs, with Alex Colome and Garrett Richards scheduled to toe the rubber.
Tampa Bay Rays (Colome)
The Rays have been playing solid baseball overall, having gone 8-3 over their last 11 games to improve to 32-28 on the season. As a result of that solid stretch, Tampa Bay has moved into second place in the AL East.
So far in this series, the Rays and Angels have split the first two games, with Mike Trout and company easily winning 8-2 in the opener before Tampa Bay evened things up with a 4-2 victory yesterday. Evan Longoria hit a home run and Erasmo Ramirez and the bullpen did just enough to guide the Rays to the win. Now it's Alex Colome who will get the call to start.
Colome has gone 3-2 with a 4.54 ERA and 1.44 WHIP, and his 4.25 SIERA shows that he's right where he should be in terms of production. The right-hander is coming off one of his best outings of the season, however, after he held the Mariners to seven hits and one run over six innings on the road. Now he'll return home, where he's gone 2-1 with a 4.22 ERA in four starts this season.
Los Angeles Angels (Richards)
Losers of six of their last seven, the Angels desperately need a win to turn things around and shift momentum. They've dropped to below .500 on the season (29-30) because of their bad play, and now find themselves in third place in the AL West. No bueno.
Will Garrett Richards be able to help the cause and log some effective innings tonight? He's been rather shaky as of late, especially in his most recent start in which he failed to even get out of the first inning; he surrendered five hits and six earned runs while only recording two outs before getting pulled against the Yankees. Surely Richards can only go up from there.
On the season the right-hander is 5-4 with a 4.14 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, to go with a 48:26 K:BB ratio over 58 and 2/3 innings of work. He's been very poor away from home in 2015, going 2-3 with a 6.04 ERA in five starts, but this matchup is Tampa Bay is a favorable one.
We're going to jump on this very reasonable price that comes attached to the Angels this evening.
Yes, it's been a tough couple of weeks for this ballclub, but they should have an edge with Richards in this matchup against Colome, who has been a lot shakier overall. Los Angeles still has a lot of power at the plate despite their recent struggles, and we wouldn't be surprised to see the resurgent Albert Pujols do more damage tonight.
We like Richards' chances of posting a quality start against a Tampa Bay team that hasn't been nearly as scary against right-handers in 2015, and we also believe the Angels will be able to get things going at the plate too. Back LA at this nice -105 price with your MLB picks.
