Clayton Kershaw is focused on winning his third Cy Young Award, which provides the Los Angeles Dodgers a major edge over the San Diego Padres Monday night.

San Diego has scored only eight runs over the course of its current five-game losing streak, which includes a 6-0 setback to the Colorado Rockies as -125 road favorites Sunday, while going under the betting total for the seventh time in 10 contests.

The Padres have posted a 8-4-2 series record in the second half of the 2014 campaign, which is important to consider when making your MLB betting predictions, but most of that success has come at Petco Park (6-0-1 series record).

MLB handicappers will find that the club is 25-35 versus National League West opponents, with the 'under' going 39-19-2 in that situation.

In Control
Los Angeles owns a three-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the division standings, as it looks to extend its win streak to four games—coming off a 7-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks as -235 home favorites Sunday.

Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has now put together seven seasons of 20-plus home runs and 100-plus RBIs, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB betting lines, as he’s hitting .396 with five round trippers in his last 13 contests.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is a mediocre 30-29 in the month of September.

Padres starting pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne (3-5, 3.06 ERA) has led the squad to back-to-back wins, but he didn’t factor into the decision in either outing, including a 2-1 home victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks last Tuesday.

The right-hander is 1-4 with a 4.45 ERA in six road games, with opposing hitters batting .277 against him (.202 at home).

Despaigne suffered a 2-1 road defeat in his only career appearance against the Dodgers on July 10—giving up two runs and seven hits over seven innings of work.

Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (17-3, 1.70 ERA) has earned a victory in his last three trips to the mound, including a 4-1 home victory over the Washington Nationals last time out, as he surrendered a single run and three hits over eight frames.

The two-time Cy Young winner is 8-2 with a 1.80 ERA in 12 home appearances, with opposing hitters batting .182 against him (.204 on the road).

Kershaw has compiled a 9-1 record and 1.72 ERA versus division opponents this year, including a 2-0 mark and 1.06 ERA in two efforts against the Padres.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Dodgers as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve won 16 of Kershaw’s last 17 starts, while the Padres have dropped six of their last seven games versus southpaw starters.
