Sports handicapper Ian Cameron provides a look at MLB Overnight Betting Lines for the games taking place on Friday, May 20.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Detroit Tigers
Anibal Sanchez has been a recent ‘bet against’ pitcher for me and I am looking to follow suit here as he takes the mound for the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Sanchez has a 5.91 ERA in his last three starts allowing 12 runs on 16 hits in 19 innings of work. He has a 6.59 ERA in a trio of home starts at Comerica Park this season allowing 11 runs on 16 hits and 11 walks in 13.2 innings of work. Sanchez is winless in his last three starts, permitting four runs in each appearance and three homers combined to suffer two losses and a no-decision. He has struggled with control while walking 24 in 42.2 innings overall and 8 home runs allowed. Sanchez’s track record against Tampa Bay isn’t good either as he enters this game with a 5.08 ERA in seven career starts against the Rays.

Matt Andriese will get the nod for Tampa Bay and is off an impressive complete game, 2 hit shutout performance against Oakland in his last start without allowing a single walk. He has allowed just 1 run in his 16 innings pitched over two starts since joining the Tampa Bay rotation and the Rays are certainly entering this series feeling good about themselves after a dominating three game sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays. I will recommend Tampa Bay at this near even $$ price and also this game to go up and Over the total as the Over is a perfect 3-0 in Sanchez’s last three starts and 7-1 to the Over in his 8 starts overall. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has gone 7-1 to the Over in their last 8 games overall so I’ll play the Rays and the Over in these MLB odds.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Minnesota Twins
We go from the bad Sanchez to the good one--Aaron Sanchez of the Toronto Blue Jays who will make the start here on Friday night against one of the worst teams in baseball, the floundering Minnesota Twins. Aaron Sanchez is coming off only his 2nd rough outing of the season against Texas last weekend but it’s worth noting that in his other performance coming off a bad start against Oakland, he bounced back to throw a 7 inning shutout gem against Tampa Bay and I think he is capable of another strong bounce back effort here in this game against a Minnesota lineup that has been struggling for most of the season and was held to 5 runs combined in their last two games against Detroit. Tyler Duffey is on the mound for Minnesota and his ‘on the surface’ numbers are solid but his ERA of 1.85 doesn’t paint an accurate picture. His FIP, xFIP and SIERA are all above 3 and his swinging strike rate is down a bit from last season.

The Toronto lineup has underwhelmed everyone this season and not lived up to their expectations but if the Jays are going to break out of this funk, they need to do it here against an absolute bottom feeder like the Minnesota Twins. Duffey was crushed by this Jays lineup in his lone start against them in 2015 surrendering 6 runs and a pair of home runs in just 2 innings of work. This hasn’t been the same Jays lineup so far this season in terms of production but I do like them to get the bats going at least a bit in this game and for Sanchez to neutralize the Twins. Aaron Sanchez is 3-0 on the road and the Jays have gone 3-2 in his 5 road starts. The short price of -113 is a fair one making it worth supporting the Jays as MLB pick to win against a Twins team that is one of the worst teams in the Majors at 10-29 on the season and 6-10 at home.
