Both the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals have playoff expectations so this will be one of the marquee matchups today. We are going to look at the total for this game as it seems to me there is some value to be found.

Cleveland Indians vs Kansas City Royals

Cleveland Indians
Carlos Carrasco takes the hill for the Indians and comes in with a 2.49 ERA and 1.07 whip with Cleveland hitting .259 as a team which ranks 14th in the major leagues. They have been one of the better offenses this season ranking sixth in both runs scored and total bases. As well, they have a bit of success against KC starter Ian Kennedy this season but the numbers are a bit misleading, more on that below. Carrasco has been fantastic this year and just needs to get more innings under his belt to start having people talk about him winning the Cy Young, he has been that good.

In his last five starts he has allowed five total earned runs and last time out against KC he allowed just two. The Royals did go for 10 hits against him which is the most of any team his last 10 starts but he still kept the damage to a minimum. If the Royals do get to him though they will have to contend with one of the better relief staffs in the American league as the Indian relievers come in allowing hitter just a .237 average.

Kansas City Royals
Ian Kennedy gets the start for the Royals and comes in with a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 whip while Kansas City is hitting .271 as a team which ranks fourth in the major leagues. Surprisingly their good average has not produced a ton of production as they rank 25h in runs per game. Looking closer it starts to make some sense as KC just doesn't have a ton of power in their lineup ranking 24th and 27th in extra base hits and home runs per game respectively with their home runs per at bat ratio being the worst in the major leagues.

Kennedy has been very solid recently allowing just nine total earned runs in his last five starts spanning 27 innings. He did give up four earned to Cleveland in mid-June but that was off of just five hits with two of them being two run home runs, and one of those coming in the seventh when he was probably a bit out of gas. Like Carrasco though he has a solid relief staff to help them out who lead the AL in ERA with batters hitting just .239 against them.

Conclusion
MLB odds have the total for this game at 8.5. For my MLB pick I'm going to back under this total like at Pinnacle -123. Although the juice is a bit high this is just too many runs in my opinion as I look for this game to stay really low in the numbers.

Free MLB Pick: Under 8.5 -123
Best Line Offered: at Pinnacle

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2994037, "sportsbooksIds":[238,93,1096,1537,43], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]
