Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs
The Cincinnati Reds could be a live underdog against the mighty Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. Anthony DeSclafani has been extremely sharp and impressive since coming off the DL and returning to the Reds rotation. He has a 1.78 ERA in 5 starts allowing just 6 earned runs in 30.1 innings with 3 walks and 19 strikeouts over his last 21.2 innings spanning three starts. DeSclafani also has solid numbers in his career against the Cubs here at Wrigley Field permitting just 4 runs in 19 innings over three outings on this field last season.

He should have a good chance to at least keep the Reds in this game. Adam Warren is scheduled to get a spot start for Chicago moving from the bullpen to the rotation for this game. He’s not likely to pitch deep based on his previous outings as a starter when he was with the New York Yankees as he did not pitch more than 6 innings in 8 of his last 10 starts for them.

The Cubs bullpen is solid at the back end but their middle relief has given up runs in the past and likely will get some action here with Warren not a likely candidate to eat innings. As always the Reds bullpen is scary so I’m going to split this MLB Pickw up between the first 5 innings and the full game on Cincinnati at a big dog price.

San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks
Colin Rea has a sharp home/road dichotomy for the San Diego Padres. He’s been solid at Petco Park but has not been that way on the highway coming into this game with a 5.13 ERA in 5 road starts allowing 17 runs on 26 hits in 26.1 innings in those games. He has not pitched deep into most games as he has failed to reach 7 innings pitched in 8 of his last 9 starts so we should see some of the Padres bullpen which has been a season long sore spot for this team and Arizona should have plenty of opportunities to light up the scoreboard in this game.

On the flip side, Shelby Miller’s nightmarish season just keeps on going for the Diamondbacks and not even a stint on the DL was able to fix his problems. Miller has been battered in each of his last two starts allowing 12 runs on 19 hits in 12 innings against Colorado and San Francisco.

Miller has been unable to pitch effectively here at Chase Field with an abysmal 7.05 ERA at home this season and I expect San Diego to have their share of success at the plate against him in this game. This total is sitting at 9.5 on MLB Odds, which is high but it is that high for a reason. The Over is a perfect 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between the Padres and Diamondbacks and I expect a similar outcome in this game.
