San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
I’m going to stick with the Over theme in Sunday’s series finale at Coors Field in Colorado with more hot temperatures in the forecast in what should be a hitters paradise for both teams. Christian Friedrich has been really solid for the Padres since becoming part of their rotation however this ballpark has been a major skeleton in his closet.

Friedrich was once a member of the Colorado Rockies and is familiar with Coors Field but he rarely pitched well here entering this game with a 6.96 ERA in 9 career starts here in Denver and the Rockies should be extremely familiar with his style from his Colorado days. Friedrich has a very good 2.57 ERA on the season but advanced stats tell a different story as he owns a FIP and xFIP of 3.73 and 4.96 respectively so there is some regression likely in store for him and it could start as early as today.

Eddie Butler will counter for Colorado and he’s been nothing short of abysmal at Coors Field. He’s been decent on the road but this ballpark has been a nightmare for him. Butler has 7.53 ERA in 11 career starts at Coors Field including a 9.37 ERA in 3 home starts this season against NY Mets, San Francisco and Cincinnati and he hasn’t lasted beyond the 5th inning in any of those games which means the mediocre Rockies bullpen should get plenty of action in this game.

On another warm day in Colorado, look for the ball to be flying and for more runs in bunches from both teams and it’s worth noting the Over offered by the MLB Odds is 3-1 in games between the Padres and Rockies here at Coors Field this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants (ESPN Sunday Night Baseball)

I think there could be a ‘buy’ sign right now on teenage phenom Julio Urias right now after he put forth easily his best outing since joining the LA Dodgers rotation in his last start as he allowed just a single run in 4 innings while walking just a single batter and striking out 7.

He has not pitched well in two previous road starts but I’m willing to overlook that a bit because he’s facing a San Francisco lineup that is banged up with key injuries to Hunter Pence and Angel Pagan and also struggling at the plate scoring 4 runs or less in their last five games in which they have gone just 1-4.

I have a hard time endorsing Jake Peavy as a favorite at any price even though he has pitched a lot more respectable of late after a very rough first month to the season. He struggled against the LA Dodgers in his previous start against them earlier this season allowing 4 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings and is coming off a rough outing against St. Louis as Peavy was hit for 4 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings.

Peavy has a 5.64 ERA at home and the Giants are just 5-7 with him on the mound this season. I will back Urias and the LA Dodgers at a short underdog price on Sunday night for my MLB Pick but will split up the bet between the first 5 innings and the full game with half of my total wager on each as there is a chance that Urias will once again be on a strict pitch count and pitch limit as he has been in his previous starts with the Dodgers.
