In Saturday’s slate of MLB games, you get some really good pitching matchups to end the night and this is what we’re going to expose with our MLB betting picks of the day.

Capper Catalano Record:174-155 - 26.45 Units

New York Mets (60-69) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (73-57)
Miracles Do Happen
I’m being a little comical and dramatic at the same time, but the Dodgers are coming off of a 6-2 win over New York in which Dan Haren pitched some excellent baseball as he outdueled Jonathan Niese and the Dodgers offense came on late in the game, led by a Matt Kemp 2-run double.

Tonight, we get another spectacular pitching duel as the unpredictable Zack Greinke (12-8, 2.75) squares off against the young phenom, Jacob deGromm (6-5, 2.87). Both pitchers are coming off of injury issues as Greinke got his start pushed back a day and deGromm hasn’t pitched since August 7th after 5 consecutive winning decisions in 5 starts.

Pitching-wise, this game comes down to deGromm either being rusty or well-rested. He also has to worry about the Mets giving him enough run support. With players like David Wright slumping so mightily, the Mets would take any runs that they could get even if it came from deGromm himself, who is a good hitting pitcher.

Power vs. Speed
The leadoff position might come into play in this game as Dee Gordon has been spectacular with the bat while Curtis Granderson has not been so great, but he hits the Dodgers well.

Granderson is only hitting .222 on the season and it took a very long time to pick up his 16th home run of the season while Dee Gordon is coming off of a 3 for 5 effort with a triple and an RBI yesterday. Gordon has 57 stolen bases on the season and if deGromm holds the Dodgers in check, he can’t allow Gordon to get on base.

As I stated earlier, this game is dependent upon if deGromm has his good stuff working for him. Being that this is a question mark, I’ll pick Greinke and the Dodgers who are at home.

Free MLB Pick: Dodgers -165 at 5 Dimes (I’m not in love with these odds, but it’s the only option)

Los Angeles Angels (76-51) vs. Oakland Athletics (75-52)
Lester Coming Off Of His First Loss
This game will be about Jon Lester and how he plays after losing his 1st game as an Oakland Athletic on Sunday Night Baseball 6 days ago. Lester wasn’t awful, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings and has had a lot of time to think about it as he faces one of the best team in the majors in the Los Angeles Angels.

Moral around the Angels clubhouse can’t be great as they had their eyes set on a World Series Title and their ace Garrett Richards goes down with a season ending injury. Nonetheless, the Angels still have the most complete player in the game in Mike Trout and he’s coming off of yesterday night’s loss against Oakland in which he homered.

Trout hasn’t been playing well and hasn’t went deep in a while, but he’s hitting .353 against Oakland with 3 HR and 8 RBI in 34 at-bats. Expect Trout come on strong the rest of the season and Jon Lester will have his hands full with the New Jersey native.

C.J. Wilson
For the Halos to have any chance in this game, it’s imperative that starter C.J. Wilson (10-8, 4.59) brings his “A-Game”. Wilson is a grinder that can have an occasional outstanding outing, but on the whole, is the type of pitcher to reach 100 pitches by the 5th or 6th inning, leaving the outcome up to the Angels bullpen. Look for Wilson to step up in a spot like this. He knows that the Angels must have him pitch well to be effective in the post season.

I’m going to go for the upset here and take the Angels for one of my MLB picks. There could be some after effects from Lester’s poor outing against the Braves.
