Among the five interleague contests for Tuesday is a battle of 2nd-place teams in Minnesota where the Twins are small home favorites against the Cardinals.

A quick interleague rematch of a quick set in St. Louis a week ago is on tap Tuesday when the Cardinals travel to Minnesota to begin another quick 2-game series against the Twins. Fox Sports 1 has the broadcast with an 8:10 PM (ET) first pitch from Jose Berrios (3-4, 4.50), the Redbirds countering with Jack Flaherty (0-1, 3.60). 5Dimes has the Twins -115 on the morning money line and 9 for the total.

St. Louis had Monday off after splitting a 4-game series in San Diego and begins this set a game behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. Minnesota was originally scheduled to take Monday off, but had to rush home after halving a long set in Anaheim against the Angels to make up an earlier rainout against the Mariners. Seattle scored a 1-0 win to drop the Twins three games below .500, but still just 1½ out of the AL Central lead.

Each Pitcher Making 1st Career Starts Vs. Opposition

Flaherty is being recalled from Triple-A Memphis and could stick on the big-league roster for a while now with Adam Wainwright expected to go back on the DL with recurring elbow trouble. The 22-year-old Flaherty made a couple of April starts, pitching well in one and not so well in the other. St. Louis lost both games, which took place in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. A first-round pick in 2014 out of high school in Los Angeles, Flaherty was 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA in five starts down on the farm.

After opening the season with a complete-game shutout and tossing seven shutout innings in two of his next three starts, it looked as if Berrios was ready to take that next step to becoming the ace of the Minnesota staff. That hasn’t been the case with the 23-year-old Puerto Rican knocked around in his last four outings, surrendering 18 earned runs in 18.1 innings as Minnesota dropped three of the games. The Angels chased him in the sixth last Thursday in Anaheim as a +140 underdog on the baseball odds, scoring five times in a 7-4 final.

Series History, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

The Twins bucked the home-field advantage trend in this rivalry by winning both games in St. Louis last week, taking the opener 6-0 as small road pups and completing the sweep with a 7-1 decision as +150 ‘dogs the next night. Minnesota won both matchups at Target Field in 2015 in the first meeting in the North Star State since 2000, each contest staying ‘under.’

A nice evening is being promised by the weatherman – clear skies, 74° at game time – and my forecast calls for a free MLB pick on the ‘under.’
