Joe Saunders has been a member of the Texas Rangers for less than a season, but his struggles at Globe Life Park in Arlington over the course of his career make the Baltimore Orioles dangerous road underdogs Tuesday.

Baltimore trails the Toronto Blue Jays by 4.5 games in the AL East standings, while it enters this series with a minus-six run differential. The Orioles were fortunate to land outfielder Nelson Cruz in free agency during the offseason, as he’s hitting .314 with 20 home runs and 52 RBIs. MLB handicappers will find that the club is 3-3 on the road with a money line of -100 to -125.

Returning home
Texas went 7-4 on a season-long 11-game road trip, which came to an end by capturing a 2-0 victory over the Washington Nationals as -116 favorites Sunday, while going 'under' the betting total for the first time in four contests. The Rangers are on pace to hit just 98 round trippers during the 2014 campaign, which would be their lowest such total in a non-strike season since 1976. Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 84-84 when playing against a team with a winning record.

Orioles starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez (2-6, 4.65 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 3-1 road defeat to the Houston Astros in his last trip to the mound, as he allowed a single run and three hits over six frames. The right-hander is 2-2 with a 3.74 ERA in six road appearances, with opposing hitters batting .248 against him (.267 at home). In six lifetime efforts versus the Rangers, Jimenez has tallied a 3-2 record and 3.03 ERA.

Rangers starting pitcher Joe Saunders (0-1, 4.15 ERA) will make just his third appearance of the season, as he didn’t factor into the decision of a 1-0 road victory over the Minnesota Twins last time out. The left-hander has compiled a forgettable 1-7 record and 8.58 ERA in eight regular-season outings at this ballpark. Saunders went 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA in seven starts as a member of the Orioles in 2012.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Orioles as one of their MLB picks, as the Rangers are 2-8 in their last 10 games following an off day.
