When the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox meet to finish up their series in Fenway odds makers have come out with a big total. Despite the big total I believe we can expect quite a few runs in today’s matchup.

Baltimore Orioles*

Ubaldo Jimenez takes the mound for Baltimore and comes in with a gaudy 7.43 ERA and 1.74 whip having gotten knocked around this season quite a bit. I have always liked Jimenez so it’s hard to root against him as well he might be in a decent bounce back spot after getting rocked in New York. Still, I have a hard time believing he is going to get out of this game unscathed and if his earlier outing versus the Red Sox is any indicator he’s going to get hit hard and often. Back on April 12th Boston garnered five earned runs off of eight hits in just four innings of work and I don’t expect for them to struggle at the plate today. At the plate themselves, Baltimore has been surprisingly lackluster ranking in the middle to bottom half of the league in most offensive categories. However, they still have a very dangerous lineup in my opinion and should be able to put together quite a few solid at-bats and score more than enough runs to help get over the total.

*Since this article's submission the Orioles announced a pitching change, Tyler Wilson (R) will replace Jimenez

 Boston Red Sox

Kyle Kendrick gets his first start of the season and the veteran comes in with a career 4.63 ERA in his 10 year major league career. There were few seasons in which Kendrick pitched extremely well but over the past few years he has not had a lot of success with an overall 5.33 ERA and batters hitting .287 against him. Like Jimenez, I just have a lot of trouble believing he’s going to be able to keep Baltimore low in the numbers or in the park. At the plate Boston remains one of the most dangerous hitting teams in all of baseball hitting .269 as a team and averaging 9.04 hits per game good for fourth and sixth in the major leagues combined. However, surprisingly this is not led to a lot of run production as Boston currently ranks 25th in the major leagues averaging 3.85 runs per game. Expect for the law of averages though to come into play because this team doesn’t strike out very much and they should come in with a lot of confidence against a pitcher they’ve already had success against.

MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have made the total for this game 10 which makes sense and for my MLB pick, I will not over think this and back over the total. Look for both offenses to light up the scoreboard today.
