While both Tigers & Nationals enter this series on a downer, I feel confident that we have the winner in this contest, so click here and get my MLB pick.

Detroit Tigers (Sanchez) vs. Washington Nationals (Strasburg)
The Detroit Tigers are in a major funk! They enter their 3-game set at Washington tonight with 6 consecutive losses. The first 3 were at Cleveland by combined scores of 20-7. The most recent 3 came at home this weekend to the Texas Rangers by a combined margin of 23-9. In the 6 losses, every defeat was by 4 or more runs by a total margin of 43-16. The Tigers have a .180 BA in their most recent 5 games.  Sending the struggling Anibal Sanchez to the mound is not the answer. For the season, Sanchez has a 5.87 ERA and a .847 OPS.

Unfortunately for the struggling right-hander, he has been at his worst of late. In his last 4 outings, Sanchez has posted a 7.20 ERA. This includes his most recent outing, a 4-0 loss at Cleveland, in which he allowed all 4 runs. The Tigers clearly should not count on their bullpen, which totally collapsed in yesterday’s 8-3 home loss to Texas. For the season, the bullpen has a .749 OPS (ranked No. 21 out of the 30 MLB teams).

While Detroit was losing to mediocre teams like Cleveland and Texas, Washington completed a 10-game road trip at 5-5. It began in a promising fashion with a 5-1 record at St. Louis and KC. Fortunes clearly turned this weekend, when they took the collar in a 4-game set at Wrigley to the hands of the best team in baseball, who is beginning to be reminiscent of the Golden St. Warriors. No shame in that 4-game sweep, but it will provide great motivation for Washington, as they begin a week at home vs. Detroit and Miami.

Betting Analysis
Tonight, they send Strasburg to the mound, who may be pitching the best baseball of his career. He is 5-0 for the season with a 2.36 ERA and .544 OPS. Strasburg comes off 6 IP of work in Washington’s (13-2) victory vs. KC. No reason he should not have another superlative performance against the struggling bats of Detroit.

We can feel confident playing this game on the run line with the realization that 13 of 16 Detroit losses have come by 2 or more runs, while 15 of 19 Washington wins have come by 2 or more runs. I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the Washington Nationals tonight.
