The surprising White Sox are small chalk on the MLB odds for Monday's series opener vs.Angels.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Chicago White Sox
You can't blame Chicago White Sox fans if they approach Monday's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels as if it was Opening Day. They've only seen their team twice in the first two weeks of the 2016 season, and cold weather along with snow and rain kept many of them away from US Cellular Field, even canceling one game.

The White Sox are finally back home again after spending most of the first two weeks on the road, and while there is some rain in the forecast during the upcoming week, at least Chicago fans won't need to wear parkas to the old ballpark for the start of a 4-game set with the Angels Monday evening (8:10 PM ET). The first contest of the set pits a pair of lefthanders, Hector Santiago and Carlos Rodon, and Chicago is going off as chalk in the upper-120s on the MLB odds boards, 8½ the total at BetOnline where the 'under' is priced at -130.

Being on the road hasn't bothered the White Sox too much, the team winning seven of 10 away games to sit deadlocked with the Kansas City Royals atop the AL Central standings. Meanwhile, the Angels are wrapping up a long roadie that started with a sweep of the A's in Oakland before being swept by the Twins in Minnesota over the weekend, leaving LA packed in the middle of a tight AL West race.

Rodon & Santiago Hook Up For 2nd Time
Santiago is a strange one in that he doesn't spark much confidence yet seems to win more than losing on underdog lines which made him a decent bet in 2015 (+3.20 units). He's already been good enough for a little more than two units of profit this season with the Halos 2-0 in his first two starts. The 3.95 ERA is bloated a bit by three solo homers, and this park can be hitter-friendly in those regards, a mound Santiago knows well having pitched for Chicago his first three seasons.

His former club beat on him when he made his first return in front of White Sox faithful a year ago, Chicago scoring all of their runs during the first 5+ innings off Santiago in a 3-0 triumph that Rodon started for the Pale Hose.

Baseball bettors are impressed with Rodon's 1.38 ERA and 12 strikeouts in his first 132 innings of 2016, though that has to be tempered with the fact he was pitching in Oakland and Minnesota, two pitcher-friendly parks, and against less that fearsome lineups. The young southpaw out of NC State ran hot-&-cold at home a year ago when he fashioned a 4.57 ERA in 11 starts and a relief appearance at The Cell, one of his best South Side outings coming against these Angels.

He split back-to-back home/away starts against them in mid-August, shutting them out for seven innings of a 3-0 win opposite Santiago and only allowing two solo homers over the course of eight innings of a 2-1 loss out in Anaheim.

Both Sides Looking To Stop Mini Slides
This has been a very level series over the years with the Angels holding a slight 539-536 edge in regular season matchups, each team holding a low-.530's win percentage on their home field. The ChiSox stopped a 4-year run by the Angels in season head-to-head a year ago, taking four on the season and winning all three at home. Two of the games in Chicago stayed 'under' the baseball odds.

Everything looks fine on the weather front for the series opener, the only real threat of rain during the set coming on Wednesday. First pitch should find the thermometer at 70º with a very light ESE breeze (in from left-center).

Both teams enter the set having dropped 2-3 games in a row, and the Angels offense really hasn't gotten on track. My free MLB picks will be on the LA bunch breaking out at least enough to beat the White Sox tonight.
