It’s an even playing field on the last Tuesday in the month of August. See who we like as our betting picks with a lot of #3 and #4 starting pitchers getting the start for their respective MLB teams today.

Capper Catalano’s Record  - 179-157 -22.95 Units

We made a very small profit on Monday as we hit our 2-unit play with Oakland, but the San Francisco Giants couldn’t come through for us at a big price as they lose by one run to Tyler Maztek and the Colorado Rockies at home.

New York Yankees (68-61) vs. Detroit Tigers (70-59)
Will Derek Jeter See the Playoffs?
There are actually playoff implications in this game as the Yankees have come on strong as of late winning 5 games in a row and are just 2.5 game behind a couple of teams for the final Wild Card spot in the AL while the Tigers are just a ½ behind for the for the same spot.

Brandon McCarthy
Arizona’s loss is the Yankees gain. New York claims that they knew McCarthy was a good pitcher, but I don’t think that they thought that he would pitch this well.

After a complete game 4 hit shutout against Houston, McCarthy (5-2, 1.90) is the best pitcher currently active on the Yankees roster. He’s pitching like an ace and all for Vidal Nuno in a trade; this is a steal.

The Yankees have found lightning in a bottle with McCarthy and he’ll not only be tested by facing Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and J.D. Martinez on the road, he’ll also be facing Rick Porcello (14-8 3.10), who is having the best year of his career.

Porcello has pitched so well this season that he’s actually only won 3 games in his last 9 starts and still has fine seasonal numbers. He’s also coming off of a complete game 3 hitter against Tampa Bay.

I was hoping that the betting total would be 7 ½ runs or more and it’s actually listed at 8 runs due to the Tigers offense. Take the under; this is a good number.

MLB Pick: Under 8 at 5 Dimes- 2 Unit play

Los Angeles Dodgers (74-58) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (55-76)
Best of the Rest
This is clearly the best play on the board aside from the one that I already mentioned as Arizona is no match for Los Angeles and the MLB odds are very appealing with the Dodgers at just -110.

There is no Paul Goldschmidt and without him, the D’Backs have nobody to match Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez, Dee Gordon, Matt Kemp, and the red hot Adrian Gonzalez. The D’Backs are also a team that plays worse at home than on the road. They’re just 27-40 at home and with playoff implications involved for L.A., the Dodgers should dominate this ball game.

Runs batted in is the one statistic that’s underestimated. That said, Adrian Gonzalez has come on strong as of late and although he’s not a 35 home run hitter, he’s been knocking in runners on base at a rapid pace. Gonzo is up to 89 RBI while hitting .325 with 3 HR and 18 RBI in the month of August. He’s 5 for his last 6 with 3 runs, 2 doubles, 1 HR and 6 RBI. Gonzalez will definitely be a key figure in this game.

The other concern for the Dodgers is starting pitching. Roberto Hernandez has stepped up his game as of late and has allowed just 12 earned runs in his last 45 2/3 innings pitched. Everything points to the Dodgers tonight in a blowout at Chase Field.

MLB Pick: Dodgers -110 at 5 Dimes  - 2 Unit Play
