A rare pitchers duel broke out at Coors Field Friday when the Dodgers and Rockies began their series, and Clayton Kershaw is a heavy favorite on the MLB odds to even the set tonight.

L.A. Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies

Coming off a masterful performance in the Dodgers' season opener on Monday, Clayton Kershaw will be out to master the delicate art of pitching at Coors Field when Los Angeles continues a weekend road trip against the Colorado Rockies. Saturday's post time is 8:10 PM (ET), and the Rockies will send Jon Gray to the mound opposite the game's best pitcher who is carrying -200 chalk at Bookmaker.

The matchup comes after Colorado got its home opener in Friday afternoon to crank this series up, winning 2-1 as a +140 underdog on the MLB odds that also had a huge 12½ run total. Rockies rookie Kyle Freeland was brilliant on the mound in his MLB debut, and Dustin Garneau's solo shot in the fifth proved the game winner.

Kershaw Goes From Pitcher-Friendly Park To Hitter-Friendly In 5 Days

Even with the loss, Los Angeles still holds a 105-96 advantage in games played in Denver, but Colorado has now won 10 of the last 14 played on this field. Last night's 'under' winner was the sixth in the 10 most recent meetings here.

Kershaw allowed two hits and a run over seven in Monday's 14-3 laugher vs. San Diego, the Texan scoring two LA runs himself. He missed pitching here last season, but showed in 2014-15 that Coors can be tamed. Kershaw made four starts then with a strong 2.81 ERA and only two long balls in nearly 26 frames with the Dodgers winning each time.

Gray is coming off a no-decision in a game the Rockies won, looking like the ace Colorado hopes he is through the first four innings at Milwaukee, then unable to get an out in the fifth before Milwaukee plated five. This will be the former Oklahoma star's 20th career start at Coors where he's 7-3 (Rockies 10-9) with a 5.09 ERA.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Now in his fourth full season umpping on the big league level, Gabe Morales is set for his first plate assignment of 2017, and just his fourth at Coors Field. Two of his previous three games behind the mask here stayed 'under' the totals, with visitors winning twice as well. The 32-year-old native of Santa Clara, California trended to the low side of the totals last season (11-16-2 O/U/P), though two of his three contests with 9½ run marks like today's game went past the number.

We're expecting partly cloudy skies in the Mile High City this afternoon and evening with a first-pitch temp in the upper-60s. The weatherman is also calling for a 10-15 mph SW breeze that should give a little extra oomph to balls headed to right field. I could use a little extra oomph with my free baseball picks after beginning the year 0-4, and I'm expecting LA to give that to me this evening with a run line victory.
