Having beaten the Angels 10 straight times, the Cleveland Indians begin a 3-game set Monday in Anaheim as small chalk on the baseball odds.

Monday’s 10:07 PM (ET) first pitch finds Mike Clevinger on the hill for the Tribe against JC Ramirez of the Halos as each hurler makes his season debut. Heritage has the visiting Indians at -115 on the money line with 8½ for the total.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Everyday I’m doubling. ;/a>
— Angels (@Angels) April 2, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

Tribe Perfect 3-0 When Clevinger Takes On Angels

Terry Francona brings his troops to Southern California after a weekend series in Seattle where the Cleveland dropped 2 of 3, each contest a 1-run affair. Clevinger has bounced between Francona’s bullpen and rotation his first two seasons, the former Citadel star making 31 starts along with 13 relief appearances to fashion a 3.76 ERA while whiffing 187 in his first 174+ innings of major league duty. He has made one start at the Big A and came away with a dubya after six innings of 1-run baseball has a slight -110 favorite on the MLB odds, holding Mike Trout to just one hit in six AB during their careers.

The Angels also started the year on the road, losing their season opener in extra innings at Oakland before bouncing back with three wins against the Athletics. Playing for his fifth organization in just his fourth big league season, Ramirez is coming off a so-so spring for the Halos with the long ball being his biggest bugaboo (4 HR, 13.1 IP). The Nicaraguan was used exclusively as a reliever early in his career before starting 24 games for Mike Scioscia in 2017, and he is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA in one start and four bullpen calls against Cleveland.

Rivalry Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

The first of two meetings between the clubs this season (Angels go to Cleveland in early August) finds the Angels holding a slim 325-314 advantage against the Indians. It has been all Cleveland the last few years, however, the Tribe sweeping all six from the Anaheim 9 in 2017 and winning 16 of the past 19 meetings. Four of the last six games on this diamond were winners for ‘over’ bettors.

On what should be a cooler and slightly humid evening in Anaheim (61° at game time), my free baseball pick will be on the ‘under.’
